Investment Associate Intern

Two experienced entrepreneurs are building a succession holding company for established medium-sized businesses, and you will be there from the start: from the initial investments to concrete operational improvements in our portfolio companies.

Berliner Nachfolgewerk acquires profitable medium-sized companies in succession situations, primarily from the B2B services and technical services sectors. We invest exclusively our own capital and pursue a long-term buy-and-hold strategy. The first two acquisitions are close to completion.

As an intern, you will work directly with us, Felix and Milan.

Felix has built Arsipa since 2020 through company succession and consistent digitalization into a group with over 1,000 employees. In 2024, he sold the group to Warburg Pincus and remains a shareholder.

Milan helped shape the development and international scaling of HomeToGo. Subsequently, he co-founded Stellar Trust / Xentra, a software solution for holiday home agencies and hotels.

We met as consultants at BCG.

You will work directly on analyses, discussions, and decisions and quickly take on your own topics. The operational part is not a side issue: for us, the real work begins after the acquisition.

Tasks

Investments, approx. 40%

• You will identify suitable medium-sized companies and analyze their markets, business models, and financial figures.
• You will research contacts, handle parts of the outreach, and keep track of follow-ups.
• You will create company valuations, financial models, and investment cases as a basis for our investment decisions.
• You will support due diligence, financing, and the transaction process and prepare discussions with entrepreneurs, management teams, and financing partners. You will be present in many of these meetings yourself.

Operations, approx. 50%

• You will take on concrete projects in our portfolio companies, from the initial analysis to implementation with the local teams.
• You will analyze sales, cost, and process data and develop measures from them, which will then be implemented.
• Together with the teams, you will further develop sales, reporting, and internal processes.
• You will identify areas where software, data, and AI-supported automation can make a real difference and implement suitable solutions.

Internal Topics, approx. 10%

• You will help shape the further development of BLNWRK and our internal structures.
• You will improve our processes, tools, and databases wherever you see potential.

Qualifications

• You are studying Business Administration, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Business Informatics, or something comparable.
• You work analytically and do not lose sight of the big picture even with complex topics.
• You have a good feel for numbers and a genuine interest in entrepreneurial contexts.
• You are pragmatic and are not afraid to get your hands dirty on-site at a portfolio company.
• You are proficient in Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with SQL, Python, or AI-supported automation is a clear plus.
• You have already gained initial practical experience, for example in consulting, investment banking, private equity, a start-up, or a medium-sized company.
• You are in Berlin during the internship or willing to relocate for the period.
