Under the supervision of the School Director and in collaboration with the Indigenous Education Department, the Youth Support Worker - Support for Indigenous Students provides academic, socio-emotional, and cultural support to Indigenous students at schools within the Francophone Council of British Columbia. The IJEA is an ally who promotes learning, reinforces the confidence of Indigenous students, and fosters a positive and enriched school experience.
  • Offer academic, socio-emotional, behavioral, and/or social support to Indigenous students (ages 6-12) by following their individualized plans;
  • Ensure the implementation of defined objectives based on the needs of Indigenous students, promoting their well-being and learning;
  • Promote the principles of First Peoples' learning and cultural humility among Indigenous students;
  • Encourage active participation by Indigenous students, playing a role as an ally, positive model, and trusted person;
  • Facilitate collaboration between school members and share references and resources for Indigenous students;
  • Maintain a connection and establish trust between the school and families;
  • Intervene with Indigenous students and refer them to external organizations offering community support services, involving families;
  • Accompany the successes of Indigenous students, ensure their well-being, and offer cultural and identity support;
  • Vitalize and promote Indigenous languages, knowledge, and cultures;
  • Organize and deliver workshops on social skills, self-regulation, conflict resolution, and other topics;
  • Write monthly activity reports, intervention reports when applicable, and share them with the Indigenous Education Department;
  • Participate in school team meetings and develop behavior plans as needed;
  • Work collaboratively with various school staff and external interveners;
  • Perform any other related tasks.
