Job description
Your Role
The visual appearance of almost all consulting firms in Germany is interchangeable. Anyone who has their own signature style and sticks to it will be immediately recognized. In this internship, you will help shape exactly this signature style.
Vogel is one of the most successful medium-sized consulting firms in Germany — several thousand medium-sized companies trust us with their tax, commercial, and strategic matters. Based on this, we are building the leading consulting platform for the German medium-sized businesses: we grow organically and through acquisitions, consolidate a fragmented market, and integrate every new entity into a common setup. We have a design foundation and are currently building the entire system on it. You will help shape this for three to six months.
You are studying design or undergoing design training and are not looking for an internship where you cut out images. You want to create your own designs that will be published, and learn how individual pieces become a system. This is exactly what you will get here.
Your Responsibility
Design in Application
Create your own motifs and applications for our channels, our documents, and our events — with your signature style within our system.
Take on a larger design application throughout the internship period and be responsible for it from the first sketch to delivery.
Prepare print data and oversee production. Anyone who has ever been responsible for a printing error checks differently afterward.
Templates and System
Build templates for presentations, documents, and channels that allow colleagues without design training to achieve good results.
Tidy up our design components, layers, naming, storage. A system where no one can find anything is not a system.
Document which design rules apply so that someone can apply them after you.
Collaboration
Work with editorial and moving image teams so that text, image, and design fit together.
Support events from a design perspective — from preparation to on-site setup.
Contribute your own suggestions. We have flat communication: if you see a better way, say it, regardless of how long you've been here.
Your Prospects
Where the position is headed:
The standard path leads to an entry-level position in Design and from there to a management level in Brand Design. Both a specialist career path and a management career path are open. What you receive is created by your contribution — years of experience alone do not move things here.
What You Bring
Experience & Track Record
You are studying Communication Design, Graphic Design, Media Design, or a related field — or are undergoing design training.
You have a portfolio that shows a distinct style. Work speaks louder than grades here.
You have already designed for someone else whose requirements you did not set yourself — and you felt the difference.
Profiles that do not fit the above framework but have design substance are explicitly invited — we evaluate by contribution, not by label. Specifically: self-taught individuals with a convincing portfolio; students from architecture or interior design with a sense of systematic thinking; people from the printing trade with a feel for typography. The stated range refers to the primary profile. Those with a different background will start at a different market price — when transitioning to a permanent position, the same logic applies as for everyone: compensation follows contribution. This can be read in our compensation principles.
Skills & Work Style
You work confidently with Adobe Creative Cloud applications and Figma and set up your files so that someone else can continue working with them.
You have a feel for typography and know that it is paramount in a text-heavy industry.
You use AI as a natural tool — design variations, image editing, routine work. The design decision remains yours.
You meet deadlines, even if a design is not yet complete from your perspective.
Mindset & Personality
You have taste and can see for yourself when something is not quite right.
You accept criticism of your designs objectively and distinguish between good and bad objections.
You aim to set the highest standard in everything you deliver — not because someone is checking, but because mediocrity personally bothers you.
What You Won't Find With Us
No internship as an image cutout artist. You will create your own designs that will be published.
No agency setup with twelve clients in parallel. You will work on one brand and get to know it thoroughly.
No environment without contradictions. Your designs will be discussed, including by people without design training.
No "you'll get to work independently someday." With us, it's day one: you do, you own, you will be corrected if necessary — but you won't wait.
FAQ
1. What is Vogel — and where do you work?
Vogel is one of Germany's leading medium-sized consulting firms — a family business since 1959, based in Aalen — and is building the leading consulting platform for the medium-sized businesses. We are growing at several locations: in Aalen/Ostwürttemberg as our established headquarters and in Munich as our new hub. At both locations, we are looking for people across all functions — from tax consulting and business consulting to the strategic teams building the platform.
2. How are the salary bands to be understood?
Intentionally broad — and indicated at every point. We differentiate based on track record and market value, not on degree: scarce, highly sought-after profiles at the upper end, less scarce at the lower end. We calibrate exclusively on the market — two people with similar experience can earn differently with us.
3. How much — and how — is worked at Vogel?
We measure by what you achieve, not by hours. However, it's also true: if you're looking for 9-to-5, you're not our first choice. We are looking for people who work intensively out of their own initiative because the tasks are worth it. How you allocate your time is largely up to you. What we share: we work together in person — culture, sparring, and the best ideas emerge from daily proximity. We are not a remote company and do not have extensive home office policies; individual remote days are not a problem.
4. How does the application process work?
Lean, fast, transparent — and tiered by profile. For entry-level roles (internship, working student, career starter), typically two interviews and a short work sample are sufficient; experienced roles are a bit more extensive. For selected senior roles, we are testing the incorporation of a joint work day in the future so that both sides can get to know each other better. Always applies: scheduled appointments, swift decision, substantial feedback — regardless of the outcome.
5. How does variable compensation work?
Tied quarterly to performance, evaluated qualitatively. The scale increases with level: up to 20% Associate, 27.5% Manager, 35% Senior Manager, 42.5% Director, 50% VP. The expected value with good performance — you meet the requirements, set your own accents, pass the keeper test — is around 50% of the maximum; the maximum bonus is not the norm. The focus is on a holistic assessment by your supervisor: ownership, quality, learning curve, collaboration, impact.
6. How do I develop — what career paths are there?
Two active paths: Mastery (technical depth, expert career) and Pioneer (leadership, management). You choose the direction after onboarding, usually in years 1-3. Starting a career is not a separate path, but the early part of the same journey — from working student or intern to Associate, for the best without a new application process.
7. Team, Culture, Vacation?
A shared lunch is an open daily offer — not mandatory; whoever wants to join, does so, lunch can be eaten at any time. In addition, dinner, social events, and offsites at regular intervals — not as a mandatory program, but because a good team also shares time outside of work. Benefits: well-thought-out and substantial, not symbolic. Vacation: 28 days.
8. I know someone — is there a referral bonus?
Yes — €2,500 for each successfully filled position (no internships). A brief context is enough: who you are thinking of, for which role, why. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it must be substantial.
