Job description

Your Role

Consulting firms in Germany all communicate in almost the same way. Anyone who has something to say in this industry and says it well immediately stands out – because it happens so rarely. This internship starts exactly at this point.

Vogel is one of the most successful medium-sized consulting firms in Germany – several thousand medium-sized companies entrust us with their tax, commercial, and strategic issues. On this basis, we are building the leading consulting platform for the German Mittelstand: we grow organically and through acquisitions, consolidate a fragmented market, and integrate each new entity into a common setup. What we lack is not substance, but its visibility. The Brand function at Vogel is currently being created, and you will be directly involved in it for these three to six months.

You are still studying or are about to graduate and enjoy writing and producing. You are not looking for an internship where you schedule contributions for others, but one where you publish yourself – with your name on work you can show afterwards. This is the explicit purpose of this role.

Your Responsibility

Editorial Contribution

  • Write your own contributions for our channels – from research to conversations with our experts to the finished version.

  • Take ownership of your own recurring format for the duration of the internship and be fully responsible for it.

  • Edit texts from within the company. A large part of good editorial work consists of improving others' drafts without adopting them.

Production and Moving Image

  • Contribute to the production of short video formats – preparation, shooting, editing, subtitles.

  • Create cuts for different channels and learn what actually works on each channel.

  • Build our archive: store recordings, image material, templates in such a way that someone can find them again after you.

Analysis and Support

  • Analyze which contributions are read and viewed, and derive a concrete recommendation from this.

  • Research topics and prepare them in such a way that a contribution can be created without an intermediate step.

  • Support events in documentation and the subsequent utilization of materials.

Your Perspectives

Where the position is heading:

The regular path leads to a career start in Brand & Content and from there to the Manager level. Both a specialist career path and a leadership career path are open. What you receive is created through your contributions – years of service alone do not move anything with us.

What You Bring

Experience & Track Record

  • You are studying communication, journalism, media, humanities, or a related field – or are undergoing journalistic training.

  • You have already published: student newspaper, personal blog, newsletter, podcast, or a channel with an audience.

  • You have edited and published yourself. Workbeats certificates at our company.

  • Profiles that do not fit the above criteria but have writing skills and production experience are explicitly invited – we evaluate based on contribution, not label. Specifically: students with their own channel and a demonstrable audience from unrelated fields of study; people with experience in local journalism; students who managed all communication for an initiative. The stated range refers to the primary profile. Those with a different background will start at a different market price – when transitioning to a permanent position, the same logic applies as for everyone: compensation follows contribution. This is detailed in our compensation principles.

Skills & Working Method

  • You write cleanly and meet deadlines. A format lives by its rhythm.

  • You master an editing program and can produce a publishable result without external help.

  • You work with AI as a standard tool – research, raw drafts, transcription, channel variations.

  • You immerse yourself in technical topics until you understand them, rather than formulating superficially.

Mindset & Personality

  • You have taste and can recognize yourself when something is not good enough yet.

  • You accept text criticism as a craft, not as personal evaluation.

  • You strive to set the highest standard in everything you deliver – not because someone is checking, but because mediocrity personally bothers you.

What You Won't Find With Us

  • No internship as a contribution scheduler. You publish yourself, with your name on it.

  • No glossy agency process. We produce in small teams and tweak the details ourselves.

  • No meeting marketing. Your result is something that someone can read or watch – no briefings and no approval documents.

  • No "you'll get to work independently someday." With us, it's from day one: you do, you bear responsibility, you will be corrected if necessary – but you don't wait.

FAQ

1. What is Vogel – and where do you work?

Vogel is one of Germany's leading consulting firms for the Mittelstand – a family business since 1959, from Aalen – and is building the leading consulting platform for the Mittelstand from this foundation. We are growing at several locations: in Aalen/Ostwürttemberg as our established headquarters and in Munich as a new hub. At both locations, we are looking for people across all functions – from tax consulting and advisory services to the strategic teams building the platform.

2. How should the salary bands be understood?

Intentionally broad – and specified at each point. We differentiate based on track record and market value, not on graduation: scarce, highly sought-after profiles at the upper end, less scarce ones at the lower end. We calibrate exclusively on the market – two people with similar experience can earn differently with us.

3. How much – and how – do you work at Vogel?

We measure by what you achieve, not by hours. However, it's also true: if you're looking for 9-to-5, you're not in the right place with us. We are looking for people who work intensively out of their own initiative because the tasks are worth it. How you manage your time is largely up to you. What we share: we work together in person – culture, sparring, and the best ideas emerge from daily proximity. We are not a remote company and do not have extensive home office policies; individual remote days are not a problem.

4. What is the application process like?

Lean, fast, transparent – and tiered by profile. For entry-level roles (internship, working student, career start), two interviews and a short work sample are usually sufficient; experienced roles are a bit more extensive. For selected senior roles, we are considering incorporating a joint work day in the future so that both sides can get to know each other better. It always applies: timed appointments, swift decisions, substantial feedback – regardless of the outcome.

5. How does variable compensation work?

Linked to performance quarterly, qualitatively assessed. The scale increases with the level: up to 20% Associate, 27.5% Manager, 35% Senior Manager, 42.5% Director, 50% VP. The expected value with good performance – you meet the requirements, set your own accents, pass the keeper test – is around 50% of the maximum; the maximum bonus is not the norm. The focus is on a holistic assessment by your manager: ownership, quality, learning curve, collaboration, impact.

6. How do I develop – what career paths are there?

Two active paths: Mastery (technical depth, expert career) and Pioneer (leadership, management). You choose the direction after onboarding, usually in years 1-3. Starting your career is not a separate path, but the early part of the same journey – from working student or intern to Associate, for the best without a new application process.

7. Team, culture, vacation?

A shared lunch is an open daily offering – not mandatory; whoever wants to join can, everyone can eat at any time. In addition, dinner, social events, and offsites at regular intervals – not as a mandatory program, but because a good team also shares time outside of work. Benefits: well-thought-out and substantial, not symbolic. Vacation: 28 days.

8. I know someone – is there a referral bonus?

Yes – €2,500 for every successfully filled position (no internships). A brief context is enough: who you are thinking of, for which role, why. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it has to be substantial.
