Responsibilities inherent to the function:

The technical direction of the Port of Brussels, under the supervision of the technical director, consists of four entities, namely: the Support department, the Maintenance department, the Environment department and the Infrastructure department.

As an engineer and generally as a project leader in infrastructure, you will participate in the technical management of the port domain, including the canal and its structures, under the authority of the team manager of the Infrastructure department.

In the context of strengthening our internal expertise, we are looking for an engineer who will take charge of projects related to hydraulic installations at the Port. A general knowledge of hydraulics or fluid mechanics is sufficient at this stage. You will contribute notably to the renovation and modernization of structures: The aging lock system generates repeated failures (gates, watertightness, electrical systems) requiring urgent interventions and a heavy programming schedule. You will work towards this end with engineering offices and engineers from the Port responsible for infrastructure maintenance and waterway management.

Your main activities:

  • Follow and control the technical, administrative and financial execution of studies and works
  • Be responsible for writing plans and execution documents, as well as as-built files
  • Ensure compliance with public procurement regulations, coordination of construction sites and health and safety on temporary and mobile construction sites
  • Contribute to the good functioning of the Port and uphold the values of a quality public service by strictly ensuring professional project management in accordance with technical and legal prescriptions from the contracting authority
  • Manage projects, including: estimating a budget; actively managing the project, coordinating resources, both human and material, supervising tasks; coordinating and ensuring communication between different project partners; providing clear, precise, proportionate and adapted instructions, indications and/or explanations regarding the task to be performed; following up on the implementation of a project, ensuring compliance with obligations, deadlines and budgets;
  • Organize meetings, participate in them and lead them
  • Ensure correct and regular application of planning, management, control and evaluation instruments (budgetary, etc.)
  • Ensure, within your area of expertise, the transfer of useful knowledge for the exercise of the function within the Port
  • Respect workers' obligations regarding workplace well-being.

Why this job is made for you? You have:

  • You hold a Master's degree in engineering. A copy of the diploma must be attached to your application. If the diploma was not obtained in Belgium, please also attach an equivalence certificate
  • You have at least 5 years of professional experience in project management
  • You have a B driving license
  • You are French-speaking and knowledge of Dutch is an asset
  • You have the ability to establish constructive contacts with contractors and other stakeholders concerned by construction sites
  • You have skills in project management and planning
  • You are creative in technical approach and polyvalent in dossier handling
  • You have good internal and external communication skills
  • You know how to strictly respect safety standards
  • You have the initiative to act in case of unexpected events
  • You are polyvalent and flexible
  • You can work both autonomously and as part of a team
  • You are solution-oriented
  • You are discreet and reliable
