Job description

🚀 Join an institution of excellence and innovation as a Research Engineer in Artificial Intelligence applied to 3D Vision and Industrial Dimensional Control - 24-month Fixed-Term Contract.

Joining Mines Saint-Étienne means committing to an institution where science and innovation build a more sustainable future. A school of excellence where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute to meeting tomorrow's challenges.

Ranked among the best engineering schools in France and recognized globally, our school, a member of the Institut Mines-Télécom, trains tomorrow's talents while actively contributing to meeting major industrial, digital, and environmental challenges. With us, you will join a community of 500 employees, 2500 students, and participate in an ambitious project: combining academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and positive societal impact.

L’Institut Mines-Télécom federates French engineering schools around major industrial, digital, energy, and ecological challenges. With its 8 public Grandes Écoles and 2 affiliated schools, it is the leading public institute dedicated to engineers and managers. Together, we imagine and build a sustainable future, training the actors who will shape tomorrow's transitions.

🎯What we expect from you

As a research engineer in artificial intelligence applied to 3D industrial vision, you will be at the heart of our missions in research, technological innovation, and industrial transfer, assigned to the Fayol Center of École des Mines de Saint-Étienne.

Digital, ecological, and industrial transitions: these are the major challenges of our time and also those of the Institut Henri Fayol.

Here, Computer Science, Data Sciences, Management, Human and Social Sciences, and Environmental Engineering blend to conceptualize tomorrow's complex systems: territories, companies, and industrial sectors.

📊 Resilience, performance, sustainability… We develop and experiment in close collaboration with socio-economic stakeholders to meet the demands of current transitions.

✨ Interdisciplinary research with high impact, where humans are always at the center.

Within this multidisciplinary research center (over 80 people), recognized for its expertise in AI, cyber-physical systems, and data sciences, you will contribute to high-impact R&D projects for the industry of the future. The center notably relies on its IT'M Factory technological platforms and is a key player in teaching and innovation within the Institut Mines-Télécom.

As part of the regional DIGIMAN3D project, funded by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, this recruitment aims to develop and experiment an online 3D dimensional control solution, based on 3D data acquisition and artificial intelligence, for the automated control of precision mechanical parts under industrial conditions.

Your main responsibilities will be as follows:

· You will ensure the development and adaptation of artificial intelligence algorithms applied to 3D data and point clouds, particularly for geometric segmentation, surface identification, and selection of relevant data for measurement.

· You will participate in the qualification of 3D sensors and the setup of the experimental test bench, as well as in data acquisition and characterization campaigns in environments representative of industrial conditions.

· You will contribute to the development of a hybrid chain combining artificial intelligence and analytical geometric methods, in order to improve the precision, robustness, and repeatability of dimensional measurements, with a precision objective of less than 20 µm.

· You will participate in the integration and evaluation of the developed models on the test bench, then on a numerical control machine and under real production conditions, in collaboration with consortium partners.

· You will report on your work through technical reports, experimental results, functional demonstrators, and regular interactions with the project's scientific and industrial partners.

Your ability to work in a project-based manner, to interact with multidisciplinary teams, and to bridge research, development, and industrial application will be essential for success.

🔍 What we are looking for

You hold a:

· Bac +5 degree (engineering school or Master 2) in data science, computer science, artificial intelligence, image processing.

And ideally:

· With 1 to 3 years of experience in the applied artificial intelligence sector, particularly in computer vision, segmentation, or anomaly detection projects.

And you possess:

• Significant experience in developing artificial intelligence or computer vision algorithms.

• Proven experience in Python programming with AI libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV)

• Proven expertise in unsupervised or self-supervised learning, anomaly detection

• Proficiency in technical English (confirmed B2 level)

Your additional assets:

· Knowledge in integration on industrial hardware (edge computing, GPUs, embedded PCs)

· Interest in technological transfer and concrete industrial impact
