Mechanical Engineer

This includes the manufacture of medium power transformers, mobile transformers, mobile electrical substations, trailers, and unified substations. We offer power transformers for utility applications, including power and distribution, transmission voltages, system links, and automatic voltage regulation, as well as for industrial applications. Delta Star also provides comprehensive engineering, testing, maintenance and spare parts services for any transformer manufacturer through its Field Service business unit, to ensure that our customers' transformers and mobile transformers maintain optimal performance.


Key Responsibilities

· Prepare and track documents requiring customer approval and follow up with them.

· Perform mechanical design calculations, seismic, internal arc resistance of tanks, material strength/stress.

· Participate in design and gate reviews with the client and other internal functions.

· Prepare manufacturing/fabrication drawings.

· Present new ideas at the design stage. Solve technical problems during the design phase.

· Research and analyze new products and market trends. Apply them in new designs.

· Prepare the bill of materials, check and validate the tank fabrication drawing, final as-built drawings, customer manuals and other related documents.

· Provide technical support to designers, junior engineers, other departments, sub-suppliers and customers

· Provide coaching, training, inspection and mentoring to designers and junior engineers.

· Review customer specifications.


Education and Experience

· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering;

· Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) (Strong asset)

· Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical design;

· Experience in the transformer industry would be preferred;

· Knowledge of 2D and 3D computer-aided design software, Inventor and Auto-Cad;

· Knowledge of MS Office software;

· Knowledge of project management, time management and priorities;

· Bilingualism in French and English, written and spoken (asset).


Knowledge and Skills

· Ability to understand and popularize business issues.

· Ability to work in a multicultural and multi-site environment.

· Tolerance to stress from multiple deadlines.

· Strong organizational skills, analytical and synthetic thinking, leadership, proactivity, autonomy and strong customer orientation.

· Knowledge of 2D and 3D computer-aided design software, Inventor and Auto-Cad.

· Experience with Microsoft D365 or other ERP systems.

· Experience in product manufacturing development and R&D with power products (power electronics, power distribution systems, circuit breakers, switchgear, inverters, etc.) in a factory environment.
