Research Engineer at the Applied Economics Unit of ENSTA (M/F):

Context:

ENSTA, an institution of higher education and research under the Ministry of the Armed Forces, develops training, research, and innovation activities in the fields of defense and security, transportation, energy, maritime activities, digital technology, and health.

The school, with two campuses in Paris-Saclay and Brest, is a member of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris. Ranked in the Top 10 of the best engineering schools in France, its mission is:

• the training of civil and military engineering students, executives, and PhDs for the public and private sectors,

• high-level research and innovation in close collaboration with industry in major sovereignty sectors within 6 training and research units (UFR).

In early 2026, ENSTA's Applied Economics Unit (UEA, i3-CRG, CNRS) will embark on a four-year project funded by the Defense Innovation Agency (AID). This project is called RésiCheVal (Resilience of Value Chains). The UEA is interested in developing tools to assess the ability of sectors associated with the defense industry to withstand an uncertain geopolitical environment where continuous technological innovation is often an essential condition for the superiority of the armed forces.

Main Activities

The research engineer will be attached to the Applied Economics Unit (UEA). Candidates are expected to be able to:

• Contribute to the production of state-of-the-art reviews on graph theory formalisms for studying value chains in the defense goods sector.

• Support the production of decision-support tools based on these formalisms.

ENSTA resulted from the merger on January 1, 2025, of ENSTA Paris and ENSTA Bretagne. Its headquarters are located in Palaiseau (91), on the Paris-Saclay campus, and it has another campus in Brest. It is implementing a new unified engineering program across both campuses (Paris-Saclay and Brest) for the academic year 2026/2027.
