Engineer – Patent Drafter

Job Offer: Engineer – Patent Drafter (hybrid profile, with technical and legal specialization) Location: Málaga, Spain (with the possibility of international collaboration) Company: Stockholm Precision Tools (SPT) Industry: Geophysical technology for the mining and oil/gas industries About the company: Stockholm Precision Tools (SPT) is a leading company in the design and manufacture of high-precision gyroscopic, magnetic, and geophysical tools for directional measurement in the mining and oil industries. We innovate from Europe, exporting to over 40 countries, and we protect our knowledge through a strong portfolio of international patents. We are looking for a unique profile: an engineer with the ability to transform complex inventions into solid and strategic patent applications. Responsibilities:
  • Analyze inventions together with R&D teams (sensors, firmware, software, geophysics).
  • Draft complete patent applications (description, claims, figures) for PCT, EPO, and USPTO.
  • Design intellectual property protection strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with external lawyers and patent offices in different countries.
  • Monitor competing technologies and detect patenting opportunities.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear and defensible claim language.
Profile Requirements: Training: The profile is required to have training in both branches:
  • Engineering (electronics, mechanical, computer science, telecommunications, geophysics or related)
  • International Law
Previous experience:
  • Minimum 3-5 years in patent drafting or in collaboration with industrial property firms, related to inventions in the area of engineering and industry
  • Demonstrable experience in drafting claims (it will be valued if you can show your own examples).
  • Technical knowledge: inertial sensors, firmware, algorithms, instrumentation or software
  • Languages: advanced technical English (required), fluent Spanish (highly valued)
  • Key skills: technical precision, strategic thinking, synthesis ability, structured writing
  • Experience or certification as a European Patent Attorney (EPA), or equivalent training in industrial property will be valued.
