Java Software Engineer

Company Information

IDS, a company belonging to the Fincantieri Nextech Group, is looking for a Junior Java Software Engineer.

The resource will be integrated into the team responsible for the corrective and evolutionary maintenance of a distributed software system, composed of local applications installed at different operational stations and a centralized control room accessible via a web interface.

About the Role

The selected figure will be responsible for analyzing and resolving anomalies, implementing new functionalities, adapting existing components, and supporting integration, testing, and release activities. The role requires the ability to work on both Java desktop applications and web backend and frontend components, within a modular and event-driven architecture.

Responsibilities

• Analysis and resolution of software anomalies;
• Corrective maintenance of existing components;
• Development of new functionalities within the scope of evolutionary maintenance;
• Analysis of source code and application architecture;
• Development and modification of Java and JavaFX desktop applications;
• Development and maintenance of Java and Spring Boot backend services;
• Development and maintenance of Angular and TypeScript frontend components;
• Management and updating of Python components and scripts;
• Analysis of communication flows based on MQTT;
• Maintenance of data exchange interfaces via FTP;
• Analysis and updating of PostgreSQL data schemas;
• Development and optimization of SQL queries;
• Analysis of application logs and identification of anomaly causes;
• Execution of functional, integration, and regression tests;
• Support for installation, configuration, and release activities;
• Production and updating of technical documentation;
• Collaboration with the development, integration, and technical support team.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or Scientific disciplines;
• At least 2 years of experience in the analysis, design, development, and testing of software in complex technology projects, based on Java-based technologies;

• Experience in managing applications installed at multiple sites or remote stations;
• In-depth knowledge of the MQTT protocol and its publish/subscribe mechanisms;
• Experience with MQTT brokers;
• Knowledge of file transfer mechanisms via FTP or equivalent protocols;
• Experience in the design and maintenance of distributed architectures;
• Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines;
• Knowledge of tools for application monitoring and log centralization;
• Experience in writing unit tests and integration tests;
• Knowledge of Linux and Windows;
• Experience in optimizing queries and PostgreSQL databases.

The following will also be considered positively:

• Solid experience with CI/CD solutions, including: Jenkins, GitLab, Azure DevOps;
• Proficiency in the use of AI tools, such as GitHub Copilot;
• Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes containerization environments.

Compensation & Benefits Package

• For the position in question, the gross annual salary will be between € 32,000 and € 41,000.
