We are looking for a talented and experienced Hydraulics Design Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you'll take ownership of designing and developing advanced hydraulic systems and components - from initial concept through to full-scale production. You'll play a key role in ensuring all designs meet customer specifications, safety regulations, and cost objectives while helping drive innovation across our product range.
Our client is a trusted name in engineering excellence, recognised for their quality, innovation, and reliability, with a customer base spanning the construction, energy, transport, and process industries.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Design and develop hydraulic systems, circuits, and components for both industrial and mobile equipment applications.
- Produce detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and 3D models using CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Perform design calculations, analysis, and simulations to validate performance, efficiency, and reliability.
- Work collaboratively with production, procurement, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs) and design specifications.
- Support prototype builds, testing, and validation of new hydraulic designs.
- Provide technical support during commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement projects.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers to define technical requirements and address design challenges.
- Ensure full compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g. ISO, CE, ATEX) and internal quality systems.
Skills and Experience
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Hydraulic, or Mechatronic Engineering.
- Demonstrable experience in hydraulic system design within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong proficiency in CAD design (SolidWorks preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of hydraulic components - including pumps, valves, cylinders, accumulators, and filters - and core fluid power principles.
- Understanding of system testing, fault diagnosis, and design-for-manufacture (DFM) principles.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
