Housing Standards Officer

Fixed Term: 6 Months
£50 per completed inspection (per case)

[Local Authority Name] is seeking experienced officers to join our Housing Standards team on a flexible, part-time basis. You'll play a key role in helping us ensure safe, healthy and compliant housing for our residents.

• Carry out inspections of private rented and other housing in line with Housing Act 2004 & associated legislation

• Assess conditions against the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS)

• Prepare inspection reports and record outcomes on council systems

• Support enforcement action where hazards are identified

• Promote best practice and maintain professional standards

• Recognised qualification in Environmental Health or equivalent with competency in housing standards enforcement

• Up-to-date CPD and proven inspection experience

• Strong communication, negotiation & report-writing skills

• Ability to work independently, manage cases and meet deadlines

(Experience with local authority systems such as Civica, Tascomi, or equivalent is desirable)

• 6-month contract, part-time with flexible hours

• £50 per completed inspection/case

• Work across a variety of housing types and tenures within the local authority area
