This is what you will do

Do you like varied and challenging work, are you vital, and do you enjoy providing security for an airbase in Woensdrecht together with your dog? Then come and strengthen the Defence Security and Protection Organization (DBBO)!

Defence is in full motion, and more than 75,000 military personnel, reservists, and civilian employees are committed to fulfilling main task 1: Protecting what is dear to us! Good security of all Defence locations is part of that. That is the work of the approximately 2,500 DBBO employees, who work 24/7 together on the security of Defence TBBs (Protected Interests) for people and materiel. Well-trained teams of dogs and their handlers are indispensable. Together, they uniquely contribute to the guarding and security of our Defence locations.

To prepare you for this great job, you will be trained internally by experienced instructors at Defence. You will learn what daily DBBO work demands of you, how to use force multipliers, for example. After your training as a security employee, your training as a dog handler begins. What distinguishes your work as a dog handler from your DBBO colleagues is that you will also learn to use your dog as a force multiplier. This is largely a matter of teamwork. After all, you will go out with your dog, and you must be able to rely on each other. That's why your dog will be trained extensively. With the help of dog trainers, you will build a strong professional bond with your dog. All this training is aimed at enabling you to take action in various situations.
In short, as a dog handler at DBBO, you not only have a responsible job but also a special job where you can show that you are self-assured and can effectively deploy your dog. Does this appeal to you? Apply directly or read on!

Where will you work?
As indicated, you will start in the DBBO Woensdrecht team. You will do this in a civilian appointment, meaning you are not military personnel, but you still work for Defence and wear a uniform and carry a weapon in your work.
Together with your team, you will be responsible for the guarding and security of a location. You will report to your team's Group Commander and, in addition, you will work closely with the Watch Coordinator, your fellow security officers, and the dog handlers in the region.

Please note: due to working hours and safe travel, we consider a commuting distance and travel time of no more than 70 km or 60 minutes when selecting candidates.

What will you do?
Terrain, buildings, vehicles, materiel: everything belonging to Defence must be guarded and secured. As a dog handler, you will be involved in operational security work at your assigned locations. Your work typically consists of the following tasks:
• Performing patrols, together with your dog;
• Identifying, analyzing, and responding to irregularities and security breaches at your location;
• Reporting details during your shift and handing over to the next shift;
• Being visibly present on location to deter potential perpetrators;
• Operating the Electronic Access System (ETS);
• Assisting with dog training and exercises, acting as a bite worker where necessary;
• Caring for the dogs in the kennel, including feeding the dogs, cleaning kennels, etc.

This is what we ask

Who are you?
• You have an affinity with dogs and security work.
• You have good social and communication skills (Dutch language in speech and writing). You can express yourself clearly and listen well.
• You are mentally strong, remain calm, and maintain an overview, even in stressful situations.
• You are vigilant, strong in spotting and assessing situations, and react quickly. You dare to take immediate action if necessary.
• You stand for your work and your profession, and your colleagues can count on you.
• Disciplined, you master protocols and procedures and apply them effectively.
• Integrity in teamwork, because guarding and security are done together.

What do you bring?
• At least an MBO 2 diploma in Security.
• Preferably, you have work experience in security or as a military member.
• You are physically fit, and active sports are part of your life. This is necessary to complete the intensive training with the dogs.
• You can seamlessly participate in 5-shift rotations including day/evening/night and weekend shifts.
• You have Dutch nationality; a second nationality is permissible.
• In possession of a B driving license (manual transmission) and your own transportation for commuting.

What do we offer?
• A responsible job at a socially important organization.
• A great team.
• An excellent salary.
• Clear work roster planning; you will know your work schedule well in advance.
• Good training facilities.
• Regular training to maintain and update your knowledge and skills.

This is what you get

Salary level Civil servant scale IBBAD 04 - Civil servant scale IBBAD 04 Salary description The salary is based on a 38-hour workweek. Monthly salary €3.169.00 - €3.826.00 Employment type Temporary appointment with prospect of permanent appointment Contract duration 24 months Minimum hours per week 38 Maximum hours per week 38

This is what else we offer

At Defence, as an employee, you have access to an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) every month. This IKB is composed of your holiday allowance and year-end bonus, making it 16.33% of your gross salary.
You can save the IKB, have it paid out, or spend it. The latter can be on mobility (bicycle or e-bike), IT equipment (laptop, etc.), union contributions, or extra vacation days. The IKB makes a significant portion of your salary directly usable for what you truly value.

Special provisions

Before you participate in your first armed continuous shift, new DBBO employees first complete our internal training (INI). This lasts approximately 20 weeks, with 5 weeks spent on-site. Here, you will undergo, among other things, an Integrated Professional Skills Training and learn, for example, the professional handling of your pistol, baton, and handcuffs. This is how we ensure you can start as our colleague with confidence.
To work as a dog handler, you must have good physical condition. A physical fitness test is part of the dog handler training.
After completing your INI, you will start our basic dog handler skills training, which lasts 8 weeks. After completing additional workplace-specific training (WGO) and successfully passing the operational readiness (OI) practical test with your assigned dog, you will be a dog handler.

A security investigation, and possibly a reference check, is part of the selection procedure. The security investigation is a background check by the MIVD concerning criminal records and financial matters, among others. This typically takes 8-12 weeks. Before you can start, a stability measurement will also take place, assessing your stress resistance and psychological resilience.

You are willing to take the oath or affirmation for civilian employees of Defence. This can be done based on all common religions or belief systems.

We are deployable worldwide for peace and security. A diversity of mindsets, perspectives, and qualities contributes to achieving our mission: "Protecting what is dear to us." For this, we are explicitly looking for new colleagues who contribute to diversity within Defence.
• Defence is also committed to employing individuals who fall under the target group of the Job Arrangement Act. If you are registered in the target group register, we invite you to apply!
• Your application documents will be destroyed no later than three months after the completion of the selection procedure. This period is longer than the standard period prescribed by the General Data Protection Regulation. This extended period is necessary in case an objection and/or appeal procedure is initiated by an internal candidate.

This vacancy is not open for acquisition.
