Job Description
Do you enjoy varied and challenging work, are you vital, and do you like to provide security for an airbase or barracks together with your dog? Then come and strengthen the Defense Security and Safeguarding Organization (DBBO) at Gilze-Rijen Airbase!
Defense is in full motion and more than 84,000 military personnel, reservists, and civilian employees are committed to fulfilling core task 1: Protecting what is dear to us!
Good security for all Defense locations is part of that. That is the work of the approximately 2,500 DBBO employees, who work 24/7 together on the security of Defense TBBs, the Protected Interests, of people and materiel. Well-trained teams of dogs and their handlers are indispensable. Together, they uniquely provide for the guarding and security of our Defense locations.
To prepare you for this great job, you will be trained internally by experienced instructors at Defense. You will learn what daily DBBO work entails, for example, how to use force multipliers. After your training as a security employee, your training as a dog handler begins. What distinguishes your work as a dog handler from your DBBO colleagues is that you will also learn to use your dog as a force multiplier. This is largely a matter of teamwork. After all, you will go out with your dog, and you must be able to trust each other. That's why your dog will be trained extensively. With the help of dog trainers, you will build a strong professional bond with your dog. All this training is aimed at enabling you to act effectively in various situations.
In short, as a dog handler at DBBO, you have not only a responsible job, but also a special job where you can show that you are strong and can effectively deploy your dog. Does this appeal to you? Then apply directly or read on!
As indicated, you will start working in the DBBO at Gilze-Rijen. You will do this in a civilian appointment, meaning you are not a military member, but you still work for Defense and wear a uniform and carry a weapon in your work. You will report to the Team Group Commander and will also work closely with the Watch Coordinator, your fellow security officers, and the dog handlers in the region.
Please note: due to the working hours and the ability to travel safely, we take into account a maximum commuting distance and travel time of 70 km or 1 hour when selecting candidates.
What will you do?
Grounds, buildings, vehicles, equipment: everything belonging to Defense must be guarded and secured. As a dog handler, you will be involved in operational security work at your assigned locations. Your work generally consists of the following tasks:
• Performing patrols, together with your dog;
• Identifying, analyzing, and responding to irregularities and security breaches at your location;
• Reporting details during your shift and handing over to the next shift;
• Being visibly present at the location to deter potential offenders;
• Operating the Electronic Access System (ETS);
• Assisting in dog training and exercises, acting as a "pakwerker" (helper) where necessary;
• Caring for the dogs in the kennel, including feeding the dogs, cleaning kennels, etc.
Job Requirements
Who are you?
• You have an affinity with dogs and security work.
• You have good social and communication skills (Dutch language in speech and writing). You can express yourself clearly and listen well.
• You are mentally strong, remain calm, and maintain an overview, even in stressful situations.
• You are vigilant, strong in detecting and assessing situations, and react quickly. You dare to take immediate action if necessary.
• You stand for your work and your profession, and your colleagues can count on you.
• Disciplined, you master and effectively apply protocols and procedures.
• Integrity, you are a team player, because guarding and securing is done together.
What do you bring?
• At least an MBO 2 diploma in Security.
• Preferably, you have work experience in security or as a military member.
• You are physically fit and sports are an integral part of your life. This is necessary to cope with the intensive training with the dogs.
• You can seamlessly participate in 5-shift work, including day/evening/night and weekend shifts.
• You have Dutch nationality; a second nationality is also acceptable.
• Possess a driver's license B (manual transmission) and your own transportation for commuting.
What do we offer?
• A responsible job in a socially important organization.
• A great team.
• Excellent salary.
• Clear work schedule planning; you know your shifts well in advance.
• Good training facilities.
• Regular training to maintain and update your knowledge and skills.
