What you will do

As a Technical Service Officer of the Navy, you are responsible for the condition monitoring, readiness, and maintenance of the (electro)technical installations on board one of the many types of Navy ships. As an Officer, you also advise the operational commander of the ship on the deployment and deployability of the various systems. Finally, you will lead and coordinate the work of a team of technical specialists.

As a Technical Service Officer, you can also be deployed ashore, for example, in one of the many technically supporting functions. Think of new construction, design, procurement, maintenance, and decommissioning of ships (life cycle management).

Additionally, there are many technical functions at the various Navy schools, where you are responsible for training technical personnel or for knowledge management, for example.

In your role as a Technical Officer, (maritime) technology is always central, but you are also a soldier. This means that your technical work must always be viewed in the context of the situation in which you are working.

You are expected to assess situations, make tactical judgments, and demonstrate leadership by making choices. A Technical Service Officer of the Navy is a jack-of-all-trades within a unique, non-boring organization!

Where you will work

You will work again within the Technical Service on board a Navy ship or in a shore-based function. The main location is Den Helder. You will participate in exercises and must take into account that you may be deployed.
