We are an e-commerce agency from Cologne and have been developing sophisticated digital commerce platforms for brands and retailers for over 15 years. Our focus is on Shopware, supplemented by modern commerce architectures – from classic platform solutions to headless and composable approaches, when they make sense.

In order to prepare our team and our technological orientation for the upcoming challenges in e-commerce and in the field of AI in the long term, we are looking for a Head of Technology & AI. In this role, you will shape our technological strategy, lead our development team and ensure that modern technologies – especially AI in the development process – are used meaningfully and productively.

Tasks

As Head of Technology & AI, you are the technological figurehead of our engineering team. You will further develop our team in terms of technical expertise and organization, make key architectural decisions and ensure that we continuously improve our development processes – including through the targeted use of AI tools in coding, reviews, testing and deployment.

At the same time, you will work closely with project management, consulting and customers and contribute your expertise in workshops and conceptualizations.

Your role in detail

Technological Leadership

• Further development of our technological strategy in the Shopware and e-commerce environment
• Evaluation of new technologies, frameworks and tools
• Introduction and further development of AI-supported development processes (e.g. code generation, reviews, testing, deployment)
• Ensuring a sustainable architecture and high code quality in our projects

Team Leadership & Development

• Technical and disciplinary leadership of our development team
• Promotion of the technical development of our developers
• Building clear development structures to develop junior and mid-level developers into senior levels
• Establishing knowledge exchange and further development of technical standards

Project Support & Architecture

• Support for architectural decisions in complex customer projects
• Technical escalation instance for the team
• Participation in technical workshops, conception phases and customer meetings
• Close cooperation with project management and consulting

Processes & Organization

• Further development of our development processes
• Optimization of CI/CD, deployment and quality assurance
• Further development of meaningful documentation and development standards
• Identification of optimization potential in tools and workflows

Qualification

You have a strategic understanding of technology and a structured way of working. You can communicate complex technical topics in an understandable way and have experience with architectural decisions. You have high standards for code quality, scalability and maintainability.
You also enjoy leading teams, taking responsibility and communicating clearly. Ideally, you live in the Cologne region or surrounding area and work regularly with the team on site, while at the same time having a high percentage of working from home.

Ideally, you bring the following with you:

• Several years of experience in software development in e-commerce
• Very good knowledge of the Shopware ecosystem (mandatory requirement)
• Experience in the technical management of development teams
• Experience with modern web technologies and architectural concepts
• Interest in meaningfully integrating AI into development processes
• Strategic technology understanding and structured way of working
• Joy in leading teams and developing people
• Good German language skills
