ecosistant, an emerging and in-demand startup in Berlin, is becoming the go-to point for online retailers regarding sustainability & recycling, leading the transformation towards fair and resource-conserving e-commerce in the 21st century. Our mission as a team is to make online retail sustainable and to help break down barriers in international e-commerce in the extremely dynamic market of PPWR (EU Packaging Directive) and EPR (Recycling).

Our business is highly data-driven. To guarantee maximum efficiency, we consistently rely on intelligent process automation, as well as new tools and integrations for our customers. Our current foundation was built by our part-time CTO – now we are looking for a strategic, analytical, and operationally strong individual to take over this setup from November 2026, scale it further, and lead our team and processes into the future – preferably directly in Berlin.

Responsibilities

Your Role & Responsibility with Us

As Head of Technical Operations, you will be the bridge between our strategic vision (3-year roadmap) and operational implementation. You will keep our startup sustainably marketable and at the same time be the analytical rock in the surf for our daily business.

• Strategy & 3-Year Roadmap: In close cooperation with our part-time CTO, you will shape the medium- and long-term tech and automation strategy. You will make well-founded make-or-buy decisions and plan the transition from no-code to proprietary systems.
• Team Leadership, Mentoring & Representation: You will take on the technical leadership of our IT staff, set tactics for daily operations, and continuously improve our internal IT processes. With your analytical skills, you will support complex error analyses to build problem-solving competencies within the team. In the absence of the IT staff (vacation/illness) and in daily business, you will not shy away from fully representing, supporting, and handling tasks hands-on yourself.
• Architecture & B2B Scaling: You will optimize our existing system (no-code automation platforms, tools for data entry, and our in-house ERP system) and make our tech stack fit for IT audits of large B2B customers (conceivable ERP integrations such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).
• Quality Assurance (QA) & Processes: You will implement best practices and optimize our standards for no-code and code development (dev/staging environments, strict error handling, automatic error monitoring, tracking, and complete documentation). You will conduct technical reviews and ensure the provision of high-quality test data and test environments.
• Agile Developments & Planning of Refactorings: You will contribute to the conception of sustainable solution approaches, define uniform data models and protocols, and serve as a contact person for product owners, business development, and contributors in their respective implementation. For complex or business-critical parts of implementations, you will assist as needed or ensure that they are implemented conscientiously, securely, with high quality, and sustainably.
• Analytical Excellence & Troubleshooting: You will be the "failback support" and the final instance for complex system failures. When data flows stall, API limits are reached, or unforeseen errors occur in tool interfaces, you will support root cause analysis deeply and systematically and direct the remediation.

Qualifications

What You Bring (Your Profile)

• Experience in a Startup Environment: You have at least 5 years of experience in a shaping or leading IT/Operations role and love the dynamic environment of a startup.
• No-Code & API Expert with Code Understanding: You master a no-code platform (n8n, Make, etc.) at an expert level (webhooks, API integrations, error handling, complex data operations, asynchronous event-driven architectures). You understand relational database structures in detail. You have experience in code (PHP, JavaScript) to keep an eye on developed framework plugins.
• Strong Analytical Mindset: You possess a strong ability for root cause analysis and conceptualizing improved approaches. You do not lose sight of complex, nested systems and data streams and love to systematically track down and sustainably solve errors.
• Hands-on Mentality & Flexibility: You combine strategic thinking with operational drive. You are not "too good" to create data fields yourself or click automation scenarios.
• Empathetic Leader: You genuinely enjoy passing on knowledge, setting guardrails, and building future junior talent in a structured and patient manner.
