Head of Services (Optometry)

This role leads and manages the optometry service in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, ensuring smooth delivery of eye care services across hospital and community settings in a new hospital environment. It includes planning, daily operations, and overseeing the clinical work of all optometry staff while maintaining high standards of patient care. The role works closely with, and reports to, the Head of Department and the Primary Eye Care Lead Consultant. Responsibilities Clinic Operations: • Manage and coordinate the delivery of eye care services across hospital and community settings. • Ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the optometry service, including staff scheduling, patient flow, and resource allocation. • Develop and implement strategies to improve patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes, and operational efficiency. • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of services. Clinical Governance: • Oversee the clinical work of all optometry staff, ensuring high standards of patient care are maintained. • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines. • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery. • Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective communication and coordination of services.
