Head of Platform Engineering (m/w/d)

Job Description

benuta is one of the largest online providers for carpets and home textiles in Europe, with around 100 million euros in revenue, its own logistics in Dormagen, and brands in more than ten countries. We are no longer a conglomerate or startup - we are in the phase where platform decisions will have to be made five years from now.

In the next two years, we will be rebuilding our tech stack. We are leaving Adobe Commerce and moving to Shopify Plus Enterprise. We will be introducing a modern middleware that will allow our systems to finally talk to each other cleanly for the first time. We will be bringing Reply WMS into our logistics. We will be using Claude and MCP to make customer service, PIM, and consulting more productive. This is the stage on which this role will act.

About This Role

• You are responsible for our commerce platform end-to-end. Architecture, re-platforming, middleware, integrations, AI layer.
• You lead an internal team of around five engineers - frontend, backend, ERP, PIM, process & integration - and manage our external partners: Patchworks implementation, frontend boutique, kreativstyle for PIM/Akeneo.
• You are the person who has a roadmap, vendor negotiation, and code review in one hand.
• You remain hands-on. You sit in the architecture workshop, code review, and steering committee.
• You make sure your hands aren't too fine, but you never lose sight of the big picture.

Job Requirements

What We're Looking For

• You have several years of experience as a senior or lead in an e-commerce platform that is growing rapidly - preferably D2C, mid-market, lifestyle, or fashion.
• You have at least one re-platforming project under your belt, ideally from Magento to Shopify Plus or a similar change.
• You know headless commerce on Hydrogen or , have iPaaS experience with Patchworks, Workato, or something similar, and can architect ERP and WMS integrations.
• You lead people with clarity, not micromanagement. You manage agencies without becoming dependent on them.
• You recognize risks early and speak out about them. You think commercially - TCO, ROI, and CM2 are no foreign words to you.
• You speak very good German and at least good English. Our team, logistics, and most important agency partners are German-speaking. Clear communication is not a bonus here, but a prerequisite.
