Head of Maintenance - Off-Grid Reserve & Sustainability

A conservation-focused hospitality organization in Northern Cape, South Africa, is seeking a Head of Maintenance to oversee operations and ensure sustainability in a remote setting. The candidate must possess a relevant engineering qualification and significant leadership experience in maintenance and engineering. This hands-on role includes managing infrastructure, utilities, and team leadership while living on-site to support both guest comfort and environmental stewardship. A valid driver's license is required. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibilities: • Developing and implementing effective maintenance strategies to ensure optimal performance of all equipment and systems; • Managing a small team of maintenance staff, providing guidance, training, and mentoring as needed; • Coordinating with other departments to ensure seamless operations and minimize downtime; • Conducting regular inspections and audits to identify potential issues and implement corrective actions; • Collaborating with the Sustainability Manager to develop and implement sustainable practices and initiatives; • Ensuring compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations; • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inventory management, and equipment performance data. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, and other infrastructure-related areas. A degree in Engineering or related field is required, as well as at least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
