SOS MEDITERRANEE

The European Association "SOS MEDITERRANEE" is a humanitarian search and rescue organization founded by European citizens in 2015 to confront the drowning in the Mediterranean. Since then, the teams on board the ships Aquarius and Ocean Viking (in operation since 2019) have rescued and provided assistance to more than 42,000 people in the central Mediterranean, the deadliest migration route in the world.

SOS MEDITERRANEE consists of a European network with four organizations in Germany, France, Italy, and Switzerland. The mission consists of

• Rescuing lives of people in distress
• Protecting and providing assistance to the rescued until disembarkation at a safe location
• Testimony to the situation and events in the Mediterranean.

The four country organizations jointly bear the financing of search and rescue operations at sea and mobilize civil society in their respective countries.

SOS MEDITERRANEE Germany gGmbH was founded in 2022 in Germany. In 2023, SOS Mediterranee won the "alternative Nobel Prize" Right Livelihood Award for its humanitarian work. By the end of 2025, a new phase began with aerial reconnaissance using the Albatross Uno aircraft.

In Germany, an individual giving program and a volunteer program were introduced in 2025.

We are looking for a dynamic Fundraising Manager with several years of experience in fundraising, management, and strategy, especially in digital single and recurring donations, starting in January 2026 in Berlin or another suitable location within Germany.

This is a role for a dynamic Fundraising Manager with more than three years of experience in the field of fundraising, management, and strategy, particularly in digital individual giving programs and major gifts. The main tasks are the further development of this individual giving program and the acquisition of major gifts. The role reports to the Executive Director and leads a team of three Fundraising Managers and one part-time student.

Aufgaben

Further development of the existing fundraising strategy, especially in donor acquisition, donor retention, and donor service on digital channels. Additionally, developing winning major gifts, primarily from foundations, but also from major donors and companies.

• Leading a team with a Partnership Manager, a Brand and Content Communications Manager, and a Digital Fundraising Manager
• Closely working with the Communication-, Advocacy- and Community Engagement-Teams
• Liaison with fundraising agencies and consultants
• Planning and implementing fundraising initiatives and cooperation at events
• Monitoring, budgeting, and income and expense control
• Representation at important interest groups and in the SOS MEDITERRANEE network

Qualifikation

Qualifications and Experiences

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in fields such as fundraising, digital marketing, sales
• Ideal candidate with several years of experience in Germany, especially with digital individual giving programs and foundations/civil society
• Demonstrated success record in acquiring leads and (digital) donors
• Experience in strategy development, planning, and implementation
• Experience in organizational development and management
• Coordination of agencies and consultants
• Able to work effectively under time pressure and within deadlines
• Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills
• Mastery of German and English language in word and script
• Familiarity with MS Office and digital fundraising, monitoring, and analysis tools
