Head of Finance and Operations (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

You will lead Finance, IT, People, and Operations: nine people in four disciplines. Your task is to lead, develop, and align these four disciplines towards common standards, service levels, and priorities. This includes areas where you may not be the subject matter expert yourself. Simultaneously, you will be the point of contact for the C-level (CEO, CGO, and CRO) and team leads in other departments.

The focus of your accountability will clearly be in the finance area. There, you will lead a team of four people in accounts receivable and accounts payable (AR/AP) and be responsible for the entire accounting cycle from beginning to end: bookkeeping, payment runs, dunning, and payroll up to the closed month and the figures that leave the company. You will oversee the systems that generate these figures – DATEV, billing platforms, CRM, and Data Warehouse – and be able to integrate them according to modern AI-based standards to establish ongoing reporting.

This is neither a purely strategic nor a purely operational position. For IT and Office, you will lead through standards, service levels, and priorities: hardware, onboarding, compliance standards such as ISO 27001 and 9001 are to be coordinated by you.

Our CFO is transitioning into a fractional model and will remain closely involved in board, financing, and transaction matters, so you will have an experienced sparring partner without anyone overseeing your day-to-day business.

Qualifications

• Several years in a senior finance role in a growing company, with personal responsibility for the month-end closing from booking entry to reporting. In a team of this size, the leader is a player-coach: you can also do the work yourself if someone is absent.
• Solid German accounting practice – HGB, DATEV, Payroll, and collaboration with the tax advisor. Practical, not theoretical.
• Leadership experience: You have led a team both technically and disciplinarily – ideally in accounting – and feel confident in setting standards for IT and People without being a sysadmin or labor law expert.
• Proficiency with SaaS KPIs: ARR, MRR, Gross and Net Retention, Deferred Revenue, Cohort Analysis, and corresponding reporting.
• Proven experience in replacing a manual process with an automated one: reporting that builds itself; reconciliation that no longer requires a person. You don't need to write SQL, but you should be able to discuss Data Warehouse, Billing System, and CRM without needing a developer in the room.
• Fluent German – the working and closing language in this role – as well as fluent English.
• Advantageous: Experience with Due Diligence, Audit, or a financing round from the inside; exposure to funding programs such as GRW or IBB.
• Experience with various compliance frameworks such as ISO, GRC, ISMS, etc., will give you a significant advantage in the process.
