Head of Engineering (m/f/d)

Job Description

As the Head of Engineering (all genders), you will be jointly responsible with our Managing Director AI & Platform for the technical implementation of StackFuel's product vision.

Your task: To build a high-performance, scalable, and compliant platform from product strategy, regulatory requirements in the DACH market, and the possibilities of the Multiverse ecosystem, and to ensure that the engineering team delivers reliably.

You will lead a growing team (currently 6, prospectively 10–12 engineers) and create the framework in which delivery commitment, AI-supported engineering, and technical quality come together.

You will work closely with Product, AI & Insights, Product Compliance, and the Multiverse engineering organization in the UK.

Focus areas of your role:

• Translate the product vision into a clear technical platform and integration roadmap, including architectural decisions and outcome goals – together with the Managing Director AI & Platform and the Head of Product Operations

• Establish a strong delivery and outcome culture: high iteration speed, clear priorities, consistent completion of tasks instead of endless “Work in Progress”

• Develop and implement an AI Engineering strategy: introduction and scaling of AI tooling, coding agents, and evaluations in the development process, with visible effects on speed and quality

• Actively drive internal AI adoption in engineering: enablement, training, pairing with AI tools, and establishing AI-supported workflows as standard, not as an experiment

• Build and further develop a stable, scalable, and GDPR/AZAV-compliant platform architecture, including conscious make-or-buy and adopt-or-build decisions within the Multiverse ecosystem

• Technical leadership across 2–3 team leads (Integration, Platform, DevOps): sparring in architecture reviews, spikes, prototypes, and pairing sessions – with a role model function without “Hero Coding” in the sprint

• Close collaboration with Product, AI & Insights, Product Compliance, and other stakeholders (e.g., Learning, Operations) to implement cross-functional requirements

• Constructive representation of DACH-specific requirements towards the Multiverse Engineering organization in the UK, including selective integration of Multiverse tool components into our platform

What you bring with you:

• At least 8 years of experience in software development, including at least 3 years in a leadership role (of Team Leads / Managers) for engineering teams

• Demonstrable delivery and outcome track record: You can concretely show how you have led a team to higher throughput, shorter time-to-market, and clearer results – more of a “doer” than an administrator, not overly cautious, but responsible

• Experience in building and scaling engineering teams in dynamic startup or scale-up environments (including hiring, onboarding, development of team leads)

• Deep technical experience with modern SaaS/platform architectures (Cloud, APIs, system integration, CI/CD, monitoring)

• Hands-on experience with AI engineering (e.g., LLM integration, coding agents, AI-supported development workflows, evaluations) and a clear mindset: AI is a lever for you for productivity and quality – and you can embed this mindset in the team

• Nice to have: Experience in regulated environments (e.g., GDPR, EdTech, AZAV) and in implementing corresponding requirements in architecture and processes

• High communication and stakeholder competence in German and English: You can explain complex technical decisions understandably

• A leadership style that combines high expectations with enablement: You demand performance and commitment, but at the same time build an environment in which innovation, personal responsibility, and learning – including dealing with AI – are a matter of course
