Head of Engineering (m/f/d)

Location: Kassel | Full-time | Permanent

For our client, an established company in special machine construction, we are looking for a Head of Engineering (m/f/d) at the Kassel location, on an exclusive basis, to start as soon as possible. In this responsible position, you will take on the technical and disciplinary leadership of mechanical design and actively participate in the technical and organizational further development of the department.

Your Tasks

  • Leadership & Team Development: Technical and disciplinary leadership of employees in mechanical design – including coaching, competence development, and fostering an open, performance-oriented team culture

  • Mechanical Design: Responsibility for the design support and further development of complex machines and technical systems

  • Product Development: Co-design and further development of existing solutions as well as development of new technical concepts based on future requirements

  • Engineering & Problem Solving: Responsibility for challenging technical and mechanical issues as well as development of constructively, manufacturably, and economically convincing solutions

  • Design Methodology: Further development of modern engineering and design methods – particularly in the areas of CAD design, stress analysis, and simulation

  • Processes & Transformation: Active further development of organization, processes, and structures within the area of responsibility as well as support of technical and organizational change projects

  • Interface Management: Close cooperation with adjacent technical departments and manufacturing to ensure efficient and practical development

  • Strategic Co-design: Active participation in the extended management team as well as co-design and implementation of the technical and organizational orientation of the engineering department

Your Profile

  • Technical Qualification: Successfully completed degree in mechanical engineering or a comparable technical qualification

  • Professional Experience: Several years of experience in the design and development of complex machines and systems – ideally from special machine or plant construction

  • Leadership Experience: Sound experience in the technical and disciplinary leadership of technical employees as well as enjoyment in further developing teams and actively shaping change

  • CAD Skills: Very good skills in mechanical design, ideally with Autodesk Inventor and Vault

  • Manufacturing Competence: Sound understanding of manufacturing technologies, materials, and design for manufacturing of technical solutions

  • Technical Understanding: Good knowledge of strength calculation, materials science, and the methodical development of mechanical systems

  • Additional Qualification: Ideally, an additional qualification as a Welding Engineer – or alternatively, the willingness to acquire this qualification

  • Personality: A communicative and confident leader with strategic thinking, a high willingness to change, and the ability to inspire employees for new technologies and working methods

  • Working Method: Structured, precise, and results-oriented with a high quality standard, initiative, and a holistic view of technical and economic requirements

  • Languages: Proficient English, both spoken and written, for collaboration in an international technical environment
