Head of Development AI Agent Platform (m/f/d)

With the rapid progress in the field of Artificial Intelligence, we support companies in the identification, conception, and implementation of concrete AI use cases. Our focus is on the development of intelligent AI Agents, Agentic Workflows, AI Assistants, and AI-supported automation solutions that create measurable business value.

We are currently developing our own AI product: a platform on which AI agents for business processes can be designed, orchestrated, operated, and controlled. The product is being developed entirely in the Microsoft Cloud (Azure) and implemented in C#/.NET. For the technical leadership of this product, we are looking for you, the Development Lead / Head of Development – AI Agent Platform (m/f/d) – Home Office / remote, starting immediately.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the end-to-end technical development of the product – from architecture through implementation with a small, highly qualified team to stable productive operation in the cloud. You will work directly with senior management and product management and have significant design freedom.

Your responsibilities include in particular:

- Technical leadership and architectural responsibility for the AI Agent Platform based on Microsoft Azure and C#/.NET

- Design, programming, and further development of AI agents, multi-agent systems, and agentic workflows including skills, tools, and function/tool calling

- Building and further developing knowledge graphs, RAG components, vector databases, and knowledge systems as the basis for the agents

- Integration of Foundation Models and Agent Frameworks in the Microsoft ecosystem (e.g., Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Semantic Kernel, Agent Framework) as well as MCP servers (Model Context Protocol) for connecting internal and external systems

- Building and operating the complete CI/CD cycle: Azure DevOps or GitHub, Infrastructure as Code, automated tests, release management, monitoring, and observability

- Translation of business requirements from product management and customer projects into runnable, high-quality product increments

- Ensuring security, multi-tenancy, scalability, cost control, and operational stability of the cloud platform

- Technical leadership, coaching, and development of a small development team as well as management of external development partners

- Establishment of development standards, code reviews, documentation, and a modern, AI-supported development practice

- Active contribution to the product roadmap together with senior management, product management, and the consulting team

Qualifications

You have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in professional software development, including several years in the development of AI-based systems, as well as initial experience in the technical leadership of development teams.

Mandatory requirements:

- Demonstrable experience in the development of AI agents or agentic systems that are currently in productive use – please describe in your application specifically which agents you have built and where they are running

- Very good programming skills in C# and .NET, as well as a solid foundation in software development principles (data structures, algorithms, architectural and design patterns, asynchronous programming, testability)

- Very good knowledge of the Microsoft environment: Azure (App Services, Functions, Container Apps/AKS, Storage, Cosmos DB/SQL, Key Vault, Entra ID), Azure AI Foundry / Azure OpenAI, Semantic Kernel, or comparable frameworks

- Deep understanding of how AI agents are designed, programmed, orchestrated, secured, and evaluated (planning, tool use, memory, guardrails, evaluation, cost control)

- Experience with the complete CI/CD cycle of a cloud product: Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, Infrastructure as Code (Bicep/Terraform), automated tests, deployments, monitoring

- Experience in translating business requirements into product functions within the scope of product development (not just project or prototype work)

- Broad knowledge of graphs and knowledge graphs, agent architectures, skills/tools, RAG, vector databases, and the application of these building blocks to various business topics

Desirable:

- Experience with MCP servers (Model Context Protocol), tool calling, and agent orchestration across multiple systems

- Knowledge of Python for prototyping and data pipelines

- Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservice architectures

- Experience with AI-supported development environments such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or comparable solutions

- Experience in integrating enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, PLM, document management, collaboration platforms)

- Successfully completed degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics, or a comparable field of study

- High degree of personal responsibility, hands-on mentality, and the ambition to build a product technically correctly from the outset

- Structured, quality-oriented, and pragmatic work approach

- Ability to clearly communicate technical matters to senior management, product management, and customers

- Enthusiasm for Artificial Intelligence and a high willingness to learn

- Very good German and English language skills, both written and spoken
