As the Head of AI Engineering (F/M/*) at amber, you will be responsible for the technical further development of our AI platform – from Enterprise Search and RAG Pipelines to agent-based workflows. You will lead our AI Engineering team, implement the technological roadmap together with Product and Management, and ensure that our solutions are secure, scalable, and production-ready for over 400 companies.

Your Responsibilities

• You will be responsible for the technical vision and architecture of our AI platform – from in-house trained small language models to vectorization, RAG pipelines, and agent-based workflows.

• You will lead the AI Engineering team both professionally and disciplinarily, develop it further, and strategically expand it according to our growth objectives.

• You will translate product requirements into a clear technical roadmap together with Product and Management, and consistently prioritize based on customer value.

• You will ensure that our systems run scalably, performantly, and reliably – from model selection and evaluation to monitoring in production.

• You will establish best practices for ML/LLM Ops, code quality, testing, and deployment, and continuously evolve our engineering processes.

• You will be responsible for security and compliance requirements in engineering – GDPR compliance, ISO 27001, and authorization awareness are not side issues for us, but core to the product.

• You will observe current developments in the fields of LLMs, retrieval, and agents, evaluate new technologies, and decide what finds its way into our platform.

• You will be a sparring partner for your team: You will foster technical excellence, provide feedback, and create an environment where engineers can grow.

Your Qualifications

• You have several years of experience in the development and operation of Machine Learning or AI systems in production, ideally in a SaaS or B2B environment.

• You have already led or built an engineering team and know how to motivate and develop technical teams and set clear priorities.

• You possess a deep understanding of modern AI technologies – LLMs, RAG, vector databases, embeddings, and ideally agent-based architectures.

• You are strong in software architecture and backend development, proficient in Python, and familiar with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and MLOps practices.

• You think strategically and also get hands-on operationally – a hands-on mentality is self-evident for you.

• You make technical decisions based on data, pragmatically, and with a view to maintainability and scalability.

• You have an awareness of data protection and security, and ideally experience with compliance requirements in an enterprise environment.

• You communicate clearly and reliably in German and English and confidently interact with various stakeholders – from engineers to management.
