Hands-on Engineering Manager (m/w/d) | Remote

Currently, we are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager who combines strong technical skills with genuine leadership responsibility.

This role is exciting for you if you want to shape engineering not just manage it. You stay close to the code, work closely with Product and Business together, and build structures that enable a reliable delivery of a strong development team.

We are not looking for a pure reporting role or a classic 'Slide-Manager'. We are looking for someone who connects technical quality, team leadership, and practical implementation.

Aufgaben

• You lead an engineering team both technically and organizationally and ensure clear priorities, responsibilities, and implementation.
• You remain hands-on: architectural decisions, code reviews, technical concepts, and your own implementation are still part of your daily routine.
• You translate business requirements into realistic technical plans and make progress, risks, and dependencies transparent.
• You work closely with Product, Business, and the company's leadership together and represent engineering in important discussions.
• You lead regular 1:1s, give constructive feedback, and support developers in growing professionally and personally.
• You bring structure to development processes, release workflows, team rituals, and incident handling without unnecessary bureaucracy.
• You support hiring, team building, and the further development of a productive engineering culture.
• You question requirements critically, prioritize technical feasibility carefully, and ensure that engineering and Product are on the same track.

Qualifikation

• You bring at least 5 years of experience in professional software development with you.
• You have already led developers or technically guided them as an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, Senior Engineer with team responsibility, Founding Engineer, or in a comparable role.
• You want to continue working technically and do not want to be completely removed from the code.
• You have a solid understanding of modern backend architectures, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and production-ready software development.
• Experience with Python or similar backend technologies is a plus, but not a must if you can quickly adapt to new stacks.
• Experience with KI-near products, automation, data-driven workflows, or modern AI integrations is advantageous.
• You communicate clearly, persuasively, and understandably, both with developers and non-technical stakeholders.
• You make decisions, explain them clearly, and take responsibility for their implementation.
• You are fluent in German and English, which is required for this role.
