Job description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Greenkeeper to play a key leadership role in maintaining and developing our clients grounds to a first-class standard. Reporting to the Course Superintendent, this is a hands-on senior position combining turf management expertise, staff leadership, and operational planning within a well-respected golf club environment.

The Role

As Senior Greenkeeper, you will help deliver outstanding playing conditions for members and visitors while supporting the day-to-day leadership of the course team. This role is ideal for an experienced greenkeeper ready to step into greater responsibility and influence the long-term presentation and performance of the course.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Turf Management: Implement and execute turf maintenance programs, including mowing, aerating, fertilising, and pest control to achieve high-quality playing surfaces.
  2. Course Improvement: Contribute to the development of the golf course and recreational areas through landscaping projects, irrigation system maintenance, and planting initiatives.
  3. Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain specialised turf equipment, ensuring proper functionality and addressing any mechanical issues promptly.
  4. Team Collaboration: Work closely with a small dedicated team to coordinate daily tasks, share expertise, and contribute to the overall success of the grounds maintenance program.
  5. Environmental: Implement sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in turf management, irrigation, and pest control, aligning with our client's commitment to green initiatives.

Hours

  • 45 hours per week
  • Rostered weekend work: 1 weekend per month
  • Hours: 5:45 am - 3:30 pm (flexibility required for major events)

What We're Looking For

  • NZSTI Greenkeeping qualification Level 3 or higher
  • Current Approved Handler or Growsafe Certificate (or higher)
  • Full NZ Driver's Licence
  • Strong experience operating and maintaining turf machinery
  • Proven ability to lead, support, and develop staff
  • Excellent time management, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders
  • A proactive, adaptable approach with a strong focus on quality and safety
