General Manager (Opencast Mining) - Northern Cape Nature of employment: Permanent contract for employment Payroll category: Monthly salaried staff Job Specification Reports to: CEO Job purpose: To manage project execution in accordance with the stipulations and provisions of the commercial contract. Ensure that all KPI deliverables and performance objectives are met and that all sub-departmental activities are performed efficiently and within approved budgets. Lead the project team to plan, coordinate, and execute all mining operations. Ensure the health and safety of all personnel, the protection of the environment, and the efficient and profitable operation of the mine. Key Performance Areas (KPAs): Strategic Planning and Management: * Develop and implement the mine's strategic plan in alignment with the company's overall objectives. * Oversee the development and implementation of the annual budget and operational plans. * Monitor and evaluate performance against strategic goals and objectives. Operational Management: * Oversee all aspects of opencast mining operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and processing. * Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, permits, and licenses. * Implement and maintain effective systems for mine planning, scheduling, and production control. * Manage the mine's assets, including equipment, infrastructure, and inventory. * Ensure the effective maintenance and repair of all equipment and infrastructure. Financial Management: * Manage the mine's budget and ensure that all expenditures are within approved limits. * Monitor and control costs to ensure profitability. * Prepare and present financial reports to senior management. Safety, Health, and Environment: * Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all employees. * Implement and maintain a comprehensive safety management system. * Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and minimize the environmental impact of mining operations. * Develop and implement environmental management plans. Human Resources Management: * Recruit, train, and develop a skilled and motivated workforce. * Manage employee performance and address any performance issues. * Foster a positive and productive work environment. Stakeholder Management: * Build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and suppliers. * Manage any stakeholder concerns or issues. Minimum Requirements: * A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related field. * A minimum of 10 years of experience in opencast mining operations, with at least 5 years in a management role. * Strong leadership and management skills. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Proven ability to manage budgets and control costs. * A thorough understanding of mining regulations and best practices. * Experience in dealing with government agencies and local communities. * Valid driver's license.
