Job description

B-works is an international digital agency focusing on tailored web, software, and AI solutions. We realize complex web projects with Drupal and AI for demanding clients from the public and private sectors - including cantonal hospitals, authorities, and private organizations.

We are looking for an experienced Product Owner personality on a freelance basis to manage and develop our growing customer project portfolio. You will take over step-by-step operational responsibility for SLA mandates and development projects at various B-works clients and be the first point of contact for all new mandates, SLA extensions, feature developments, and new projects.

We are not looking for a freelancer for a single project. We are looking for a reliable PO personality for a long-term partnership with the goal of stable cooperation over several years.

Project details

  • Location: Remote, presence meetings in Europe by arrangement
  • Project start: Immediately or by arrangement
  • Contract duration: Until December 31, 2026, annually renewable
  • Billing rate: Guaranteed retainer volume (approximately 10 hours per month) as a stable basis; grows with the portfolio through SLA extensions, new feature packages, relaunches, and new customers, aiming for an increase to 40+%
  • Prior consideration: You will be considered first for each new PO mandate at B-works before other resources are considered
  • Availability: Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00 CET/CEST (Slack, Teams)
  • Hourly rate: €60-80 per hour depending on seniority and relevant experience

Tasks

SLA and Support Management:

  • Project leadership for existing SLA mandates across the B-works customer portfolio
  • Prioritization and coordination of support requests, bug tickets, and change requests
  • Ensuring compliance with agreed reaction times: Priority 1 (critical) within 4 hours, Priority 2 (high) within 2 working days, Priority 3 (medium) within 5 working days (Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00, weekdays)
  • Proactive budget monitoring and transparent reporting

Product Ownership and Backlog Management:

  • Creating and maintaining user stories, bugs, and acceptance criteria in Jira
  • Sprint planning and task prioritization with the development team
  • Planning and conducting innovation workshops to identify valuable features
  • Accompanying CMS upgrades, technical migrations, and AI integrations

Stakeholder Management:

  • Main point of contact for end clients in daily business
  • Expectation management and change requests
  • Coordination between customer and development teams

Team Coordination:

  • Steering the development team within the SLA commitments
  • Alignment with Key Account Manager
  • Quality assurance and test coordination
  • Time tracking and billing

Qualification

Mandatory:

  • German on a native speaker level
  • Fluent English in spoken and written form
  • At least 5 years of PM/PO experience in a digital agency or comparable environment
  • Experience with CMS web projects (Drupal or similar)
  • Agile/Scrum competence
  • Demonstrated reliability and commitment over multiple mandates

Fachlich:

  • User stories, bugs, and acceptance criteria according to best practice
  • Tooling: Jira, Confluence, Miro
  • Understanding of technical web projects and terminology (e.g., CMS, APIs, hosting, accessibility)
  • Budget-conscious work within defined hour contingents

Persönlich:

  • Reliability as a central characteristic; you keep reaction times, communicate proactively, and are planable for customers and team
  • Long-term commitment orientation - you see mandates as multi-year partnerships, not as short-term orders
  • Sovereign client communication on C-level
  • Hands-on mentality, proactive, and solution-oriented
  • Ability to handle competing priorities

From an advantage:

  • Drupal-specific experience
  • Solid understanding of Swiss German on a very good level

  • Knowledge of accessibility (WCAG AA) and data protection (nDSG/DSG)
  • Experience with innovation workshops or discovery formats
  • Experience with project takeovers from other agencies or teams

Benefits

  • Guaranteed retainer volume as a stable basis, optional additional project business
  • Prior consideration for all new PO mandates in the B-works portfolio, without new tenders
  • Growth potential: SLA extensions, feature packages, and new projects increase the workload step-by-step
  • Planned cooperation over 3 years with annual contract renewal
  • Professional, experienced Drupal and AI development team
  • Innovation workshops, active co-shaping of product strategy
  • Remote work with physical presence meetings by arrangement
  • Direct communication without intermediaries
