Forward Deployed AI Engineer (m/w/d)
Job description
We are Rockstardevelopers
Rockstar developers, founded 2015, offices in Stuttgart and Munich. From hundreds of projects for enterprise and mid-sized customers, we know how to build software that holds up in the long run.
Now we're taking it to the next level: AI Forward Deployment. We go to our customers, find workflows that can be automated with AI, and build productive systems directly where the work happens. No slide decks, no proof-of-concepts for the shelf. Code that runs and is handed over.
Short paths, honest feedback, no political games. Between you and the people who decide, there's no hierarchical level.
Where we stand
We're early in this transformation, and that's your chance. Whoever gets in now shapes the AI practice that others will only serve a few years later. You decide with us how we run boot camps, what stack we set, how AI really lands at the customer. You won't be number 50 in a finished AI team. You're part of the cohort that builds it.
The foundation is already laid: In the next months, you'll deliver real full-stack projects in our stack (Java, Spring Boot, Angular). That's our foot in the door. Exactly this customer trust is the lever with which we land AI projects. Parallel, you'll build the AI practice with us: first agent workflows, RAG pilots, the toolchain, boot camp formats.
What you do
You're not a developer who sits in the corner and works on tickets. You're drawn to where the work happens: close to the customer, close to the problem. Today over our full-stack projects, step by step deeper into AI solutions that you build at the customer.
Today, the foundation:
- Full stack deliver. Real projects in Java, Spring Boot, and Angular, NestJS increasingly. Clean, productive code at the customer, not on the shelf.
- Ai integrate. Where it fits, you bring LLM building blocks into existing projects: a first automation, an RAG pilot, an agent for a specific workflow.
What you're working towards and building the way:
- On-site at the customer. You sit with the people who have the problem. You're there where it starts.
- Boot camps run. 5-day intensive formats in which you work with the customer team from vague wish to functional MVP. By day three, something runs.
- Ai systems build. Agent workflows, RAG pipelines, tool integrations. Open-source stack, MIT-licensed. The customer keeps everything.
- Hand over and let go. You don't just build; you enable. Pair programming with the developers of the customer, architecture documentation, training. After the pilot, the internal team works independently further.
- Governance consider. Regulated environments are our focus: DSGVO, BAIT/VAIT, EU AI Act. You don't have to know everything by heart, but you shouldn't be afraid to do so either.
Who we're looking for
Senior level. 8+ years of professional experience overall, not specifically in AI. AI workflows exist in breadth only since two years, that's what we know.
What we need: a strong full-stack developer with solid foundations in our stack (Java, Spring Boot, Angular) and a genuine drive towards AI. You've already worked with LLM APIs, RAG or agents, at least seriously alongside, ideally productively. No playing around on your own computer, but something that runs.
The combination counts: the full-stack substance to deliver today at the customer and the hunger to build AI's future with us. AI experience is not a nice addition here; it's a directional decision. Whoever only builds full stack and holds AI for a hype will be wrong. And whoever seeks pure AI research without customer contact, also.
Just as important as the tech stack: you must be able to talk to customers. You stand in the boot camp before the CFO and explain why this workflow is automated first. You sit with department heads together and understand their daily routine. If that's uncomfortable for you, the role isn't a fit.
An exception from the senior level: if you're really strong in AI and can show what you've built, we'll talk even at fewer years of experience.
Tech stack
Must-have, so you deliver today:
- Java and Spring Boot (our main stack)
- Angular in the frontend (React is welcome)
- Solid foundations: relational databases (PostgreSQL et al.), Docker, Git, and CI/CD
- Firsthand experience with LLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI et al.) and basic knowledge of RAG or agents
Nice to have:
- NestJS, TypeScript
- Python (will be your second main tool, see below)
- Deeper experience with RAG or agents
Our AI target stack, where we grow you in (trainable):
- Python as the AI main language
- LangGraph (our agent orchestration), MCP (Model Context Protocol)
- Claude SDK / Anthropic API, LiteLLM, Langfuse, DuckDB
- Terraform
This target stack doesn't need to be brought with you. We train internally: LiteLLM learns in a week, Langfuse in two days. What's important is that the full-stack foundations sit, you quickly adapt to new tools, and you're fully on board with AI.
What we offer
- A transformation you shape. You don't enter a finished system; you build the AI practice from scratch with us.
- Work on real projects. Today, full-stack at large customers, tomorrow productive AI systems. No slide decks, no
