Job description

About ]init[

Do you want to help shape the society of tomorrow? Then ]init[ is the right place for you. Because our digital solutions are made for people and have social relevance. Sounds exciting? Then get on board and work together with over 1,400 ]init[ employees in interdisciplinary teams at our seven locations – or flexibly from anywhere in Germany.

Your Mission at ]init[

Are you at home in both complex network infrastructures and modern firewall and security environments? Do you want to do more than just administer rule sets, but actively contribute to the security and further development of business-critical networks? Then you've come to the right place.

As a Firewall & Network Security Specialist (all genders), you will manage the network security and firewall landscapes of our own infrastructure as well as those of our clients in the healthcare and system house environment. You will work at the interface of network, security, and automation, administer heterogeneous firewall environments, support the securing of complex networks, and ensure the secure, performant, and highly available operation of business-critical infrastructures.

The position can be held in full-time or part-time.

Here's what to do

  • Strategy & Architecture: You will conceptualize, plan, and implement future-proof firewall strategies and rule sets in line with strict security requirements.
  • System Integration & CLI: You will select suitable firewall hardware and software, configure them (preferably directly on the CLI), and integrate new security technologies.
  • Monitoring & Log Analysis: You will monitor firewall logs and connect system landscapes to SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) solutions.
  • Incident Response & SOC: You will work closely with the SOC and other IT teams, support the analysis of security incidents, and contribute your expertise to security reviews and optimization measures.
  • Automation & Linux: You will use your Linux expertise and scripting skills to efficiently automate network and firewall processes.
  • Documentation & Knowledge: You will maintain security policies and configurations cleanly and create understandable guides for the secure use of network security technologies.

What you bring with you

  • Education & Foundation: Completed IT degree or an IT apprenticeship with relevant professional experience in IT security
  • Firewall & Network Security: Several years of experience in the administration and maintenance of heterogeneous firewall systems from leading manufacturers – working on the CLI is natural for you or at least not new
  • Linux & Automation: Solid Linux knowledge and ideally experience in automating network or firewall processes (e.g., via Python, Ansible, or Bash)
  • Network Know-how: In-depth knowledge of network topologies, routing protocols, VPNs, and segmentation concepts
  • Incident Response & Audits: Practical experience in security assessments, the analysis of security-relevant events, and ideally in supporting incident response processes
  • Certifications (Bonus): Vendor certifications in the firewall environment (e.g., Juniper, Fortinet, 6wind, Sophos) or ITIL knowledge are advantageous, but not a MUST
  • Soft Skills & Work Approach: Strong analytical thinking, structured troubleshooting, and a communicative, team-oriented work approach
  • Language Skills: Very good German and good English skills, both written and spoken
