Financial Controller

Job description

Meet 800 colleagues, of which 500 are mechanics, Techniek keeps the infrastructure in order and the vehicles of GVB moving. You connect numbers with practice, see where performance deviates, and help the MT make choices that fit within the strategic and financial frameworks of GVB. You work closely with operations, where technology, data, and business operations converge, and translate that dynamic into reliable steering information.

What you will do

As a financial controller, you will work closely with management and colleagues within the business. You will ensure reliable steering information, monitor financial processes, and help make choices based on data and analyses. You will combine reporting, advising, and improving.

You will be involved in, among other things:

  • Preparing and analyzing periodic financial reports for management and stakeholders.
  • Identifying and explaining deviations from budgets and forecasts.
  • Coordinating budgets, forecasts, and plans for the department.
  • Monitoring deadlines, data quality, and completeness of reports.
  • Advising management on performance, risks, and opportunities for adjustment.
  • Preparing business cases, investment analyses, and financial statements for projects.
  • Monitoring financial processes, control agreements, and compliance.
  • Contributing to improvements in reporting, processes, and working methods within control.

In this role, you are close to operations. You don't just look at numbers, but help management understand what's happening behind the numbers and what choices are necessary. You combine analysis, advice, and projects in one role. This makes you visible within the organization and gives you influence over the daily steering of the business. Additionally, you will have the space to propose and implement improvements in processes and reports.

What you bring

You are someone who quickly sees what numbers tell and is curious enough to ask further questions when results deviate from expectations. You work independently but also actively seek collaboration with management, controllers, and other stakeholders to achieve better insights and decisions.

Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following:

  • You analyze financial and operational information and translate it into steering information that management can use to adjust performance and objectives.
  • You monitor the quality, completeness, and timeliness of reports and ensure that decisions are based on reliable information.
  • You bring structure to budget, forecast, and planning processes and maintain an overview of agreements and deadlines.
  • You dare to discuss deviations, risks, and bottlenecks and engage in dialogue with management and stakeholders about them.
  • You support projects with business cases, investment analyses, and financial justifications so that choices can be carefully weighed.
  • You identify opportunities to improve processes, reports, and control measures and help colleagues implement new working methods.
  • You enjoy working with various disciplines and actively contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.

You also possess:

  • HBO (Higher Professional Education) work and thinking level.
  • Knowledge of financial management and business control.
  • More than 3 years of experience with financial analysis and/or control.

What you can count on

You take good care of our travelers, so we take good care of you. At GVB, you will receive:

  • A salary between € 3,810 and € 5,610 gross per month (scale 10) based on 36 hours, depending on education and experience.
  • A 13th month, 8% holiday pay, 1.5% sustainable employability allowance, and a good pension through ABP.
  • Free unlimited travel on GVB public transport and affordable travel for the whole family.
  • An average of 21 days off per year (depending on age), with the option to buy additional days.
  • A monthly allowance for your health insurance of € 84.91.
  • Hybrid working and home office allowance.
  • Various training and growth opportunities.

Your team

You will work within the Control Techniek team, which consists of six colleagues: three financial controllers, two business controllers, and a project controller. Together, you support the various departments within Techniek in achieving their operational and financial goals.

The culture is pragmatic, solution-oriented, and informal. Within Techniek, you regularly coordinate with fellow business controllers and with Group Control to align frameworks and working methods. From your focus on Techniek, you work closely with managers, project leaders, and operational teams and are a solid conversation partner within the MT.
