Job description

Do you want to influence the daily lives of millions of entrepreneurs in Germany (and soon in Europe)? Are you looking for a work environment that values trust, proactivity, and autonomy? Do our Company Values align with your vision? Then Pennylane is the right place for you!

Our Vision

We want to become the most popular financial operating system for SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) and tax consulting firms.

We help entrepreneurs free themselves from time-consuming tasks related to accounting and finance, while also giving them access to important financial information to make the best decisions for their business.

About Us

Pennylane is one of the fastest-growing fintechs in France (and now also in Germany!).

In our 5 years of existence, we have achieved the following:

πŸ’» We have established ourselves as a groundbreaking accounting and financial software for small businesses and their accountants.

πŸ’° We have raised a total of €225 million, including from Sequoia, the renowned Silicon Valley fund that invested early in companies like Google, Facebook, Airbnb, Stripe, Paypal, and many more...

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ We have grown from 7 co-founders to 900 happy Pennylaners: We are now considered one of the best places to work in France (also remote), with a rating of 4.6/5 on Glassdoor.

🌍 We have built an international environment with over 25 nationalities, with a strong remote-friendly culture where 30% of employees already work from all over Europe.

🀝 We have gained the trust of thousands of customers and auditing firms and received excellent reviews.

πŸš€ Already more than 1,300,000 SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) and over 5000 auditing firms use Pennylane in France!

Your Mission

You are the voice of our German customers and contribute directly to their success with Pennylane. You help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) simplify their financial processes and fully leverage the potential of our financial management platform. At the same time, you will help us build Pennylane in Germany.

Your Responsibilities

  • Onboarding with Impact: You will guide new SME customers and their tax firms through the entire onboarding process. You ensure a smooth start and that companies can quickly benefit from the possibilities of our platform.

  • Build and Develop Customer Relationships: You are the primary point of contact for our existing SME customers. You build trusting relationships, identify potential for additional features and expanded usage, and help your customers achieve their entrepreneurial and financial goals with Pennylane.

  • Proactive Consulting: In regular conversations, you will assess how successfully your customers are working with Pennylane and where they need support. You increase their satisfaction, optimize platform usage, and identify potential churn early on.

  • Shape the German Market Together: You will work closely with our German sales team and the local leadership team. Together, you will further develop processes, consolidate product feedback, and drive the growth of Pennylane in Germany.

  • Build and Share Expertise: You will develop into a sought-after contact person for our platform and the German financial and accounting landscape. You will directly share your knowledge and best practices with our SME customers.

What You Bring

  • Relevant Experience: You have 8+ years of professional experience in accounting, financial management, corporate finance, or a comparable in-house role. Ideally, you have worked with financial processes, invoicing, or accounting workflows yourself. Experience in a B2B SaaS environment, at a fintech, or in a tax firm is a plus.

  • Professional Foundation: You have completed a degree with a focus on finance, accounting, or business administration. Alternatively, you have completed training as a tax assistant (Steuerfachangestellter), further training as a tax specialist (Steuerfachwirt), or a comparable qualification in accounting.

  • Understanding of the German Market: You know the requirements of SMEs for their financial management and understand the central processes related to accounting, invoicing, and daily financial operations in Germany.

  • Communication Skills and Empathy: You listen attentively, put yourself in your customers' shoes, and explain complex financial or technical topics simply and understandably.

  • Eagerness to Get Involved: You want to be part of a team that is just starting and growing in Germany. You take initiative, think in terms of solutions, and enjoy shaping processes from the ground up.

  • Willingness to Travel: You look forward to meeting our team at the Paris headquarters for onboarding and are willing to occasionally visit customers in Germany – about once a month.

  • Language Skills: You speak German at a native or near-native level (C2) and fluent English for collaboration with our international teams.

What We Do to Make Your Work Life Better

🏒 You can work remotely from your place of residence, as long as it is in Germany. Regular work from abroad within Europe is possible if the time difference to CET (Central European Time) is no more than two hours.

🌴 Regardless of where you are based, you will receive 30 paid vacation days from Pennylane. πŸ’΅ You will receive a competitive compensation package.

πŸ“ˆ You will receive company shares to benefit from the success you are building with us.

🏑 You will receive a budget to transform your home into a more comfortable workspace, as well as a monthly allowance to work in a co-working space whenever you wish. In Berlin, we have an office from which regular work can be done.

πŸ’» You will receive the latest Apple equipment.

πŸŽ‰ We value regular joint events such as our Tech Days (which bring together remote Pennylaners every 3 months) or our annual company seminar to create important moments of cohesion for everyone.

Who We Are Looking For

To be successful at Pennylane, you will need:

- English language skills (the level will be assessed and evaluated depending on the department you are applying for).

- Enthusiasm for a constantly changing work environment.

- High willingness to cooperate (within your team or with other stakeholders).

- Sufficient experience to align your daily tasks with business priorities.

We know that some people are more hesitant to apply if they feel they don't meet the entire list of criteria. If you are unsure, we encourage you to apply anyway: who knows, it might be the beginning of a meaningful and long-term collaboration.

We also want to emphasize that we fully support diversity, equality, and inclusion, and we do our best to create a safe and inclusive environment. We are committed to providing equal employment opportunities regardless of gender, sexual orientation, origin, disability, or any other characteristic that makes you unique. On the contrary, diversity makes us an even better workplace.
