As a Field Service Engineer, you make a direct contribution to this.

Within Defence Platform Services (PSD), you work on the management, maintenance, and further development of NAFIN (Netherlands Armed Forces Integrated Network): Defence's highly secure network. You work with modern network and communication technologies and ensure that the physical and active network infrastructure remains optimally functional.

No day is the same. One day you will perform installations or migrations on-site, the next day you will resolve faults or provide support for lifecycle activities of network equipment. You work closely with fellow engineers, planners, and administrators and adapt quickly when priorities change or unexpected situations arise.

Your responsibilities include, among others:

• Installing, maintaining, and managing network equipment and infrastructure;
• Carrying out work on LAN, WAN, and wireless networks;
• Supporting lifecycle, migration, and replacement projects;
• Analyzing and resolving network faults and technical problems;
• Performing work at Defence locations in the Netherlands and occasionally abroad;
• Registering and administratively processing performed work;
• Collaborating within multidisciplinary IT teams to ensure the continuity of service provision;
• Personnel planning for the Field Service team

You will regularly work on-site and wear company clothing. Light physical work may be part of the job. Additionally, you will participate in standby duties when necessary.

What we ask

You are a practical and eager-to-learn IT professional with an affinity for network technology and practical engineering. You work precisely, think in solutions, and feel comfortable in an environment where collaboration, responsibility, and flexibility are important.

In addition, we ask for:

• MBO (vocational secondary education) work and thinking level, preferably with a completed education in Informatics, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent.
• Affinity with network management and IT infrastructure.
• Preferably some work experience in ICT or network engineering.
• Good planning and organizational skills.
• Willingness to perform standby duties and travel occasionally.
• Driver's license B

Certifications such as NEN3140 VP, VCA, and ESD are desirable. If you do not yet have these, you are willing to obtain them in the short term.

Experience with one or more of the following technologies is a plus:

• CCNA Routing & Switching;
• Nokia DWDM and IP-MPLS;
• Extreme Networks Routing & Switching;
• Cisco Wireless Networking;

• You will join COMMIT (Command Materiel & IT), part of the Ministry of Defence. COMMIT ensures the best materiel and IT for the armed forces, together with international partners such as NATO and the EU. Within COMMIT, you will work in the IT Infrastructure (IT-Infra) department, specifically within Defence Platform Services (PSD).
• Joint Information Provision Command (JIVC) is the IT company of Defence and ensures that everyone at Defence can collaborate effectively (civilians and military personnel). In the Netherlands and on missions. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• The IT Infrastructure (IT-Infra) entity, from JIVC, provides all necessary IT infrastructure solutions for Defence. IT-Infra consists of the Central Infrastructure Services (ICS), Defence Platform Services (PSD), Generic Infrastructure Services (GIS), IT-Continuity Center (ITCC), and Generic IT & Infrastructure (GII) departments.

Bij Defensie moet de IT altijd beschikbaar zijn. Of het nu gaat om medewerkers op kantoor, militairen tijdens oefeningen of operaties in binnen- en buitenland, of de Koninklijke Marechaussee op Schiphol: betrouwbare en veilige netwerkverbindingen zijn essentieel. Als Field Service Engineer lever jij daar een directe bijdrage aan.

Je werkt binnen Platform Services Defensie (PSD) aan het beheer, onderhoud en de doorontwikkeling van het NAFIN (Netherlands Armed Forces Integrated Network): het hoogbeveiligde netwerk van Defensie. Daarbij werk je met moderne netwerk- en communicatietechnologieën en zorg je ervoor dat de fysieke en actieve netwerkinfrastructuur optimaal blijft functioneren.

Geen dag is hetzelfde. De ene dag voer je installaties of migraties uit op locatie, de andere dag los je storingen op of ondersteun je bij lifecyclewerkzaamheden aan netwerkapparatuur. Je werkt nauw samen met collega-engineers, planners en beheerders en schakelt snel wanneer prioriteiten veranderen of onverwachte situaties ontstaan.

Je houdt je onder andere bezig met:

• Het installeren, onderhouden en beheren van netwerkapparatuur en infrastructuur;
• Het uitvoeren van werkzaamheden aan LAN-, WAN- en draadloze netwerken;
• Het ondersteunen bij lifecycle-, migratie- en vervangingsprojecten;
• Het analyseren en oplossen van netwerkstoringen en technische problemen;
• Het uitvoeren van werkzaamheden op Defensielocaties in Nederland en incidenteel in het buitenland;
• Het registreren en administratief verwerken van uitgevoerde werkzaamheden;
• Het samenwerken binnen multidisciplinaire IT-teams om de continuïteit van de dienstverlening te waarborgen;
• Manplanning voor het Field Service team

Je werkt regelmatig op locatie en draagt daarbij bedrijfskleding. Lichte fysieke werkzaamheden kunnen onderdeel zijn van het werk. Daarnaast draai je mee in consignatiediensten wanneer dat nodig is.

Dit vragen wij

Je bent een praktische en leergierige IT-professional met affiniteit voor netwerktechnologie en techniek in de praktijk. Je werkt nauwkeurig, denkt in oplossingen en voelt je prettig in een omgeving waar samenwerking, verantwoordelijkheid en flexibiliteit belangrijk zijn.

Daarnaast vragen we:

• Mbo werk- en denkniveau, bij voorkeur met een afgeronde opleiding in de richting van Informatica, Computertechniek, Telecommunicatie of vergelijkbaar.
• Affiniteit met netwerkbeheer en IT-infrastructuur.
• Bij voorkeur enige werkervaring binnen de ICT of netwerktechniek.
• Goede plannings- en organisatorische vaardigheden.

• Je komt terecht bij COMMIT (Commando Materieel & IT), onderdeel van het ministerie van Defensie. COMMIT zorgt voor het beste materieel en de beste IT voor de krijgsmacht, samen met internationale partners zoals NAVO en EU. Binnen COMMIT werk je bij de afdeling IT-Infrastructuur (IT-Infra) en specifieker binnen Platform Services Defensie (PSD).
• Joint Informatievoorziening Commando (JIVC) is het IT-bedrijf van Defensie en zorgt ervoor dat iedereen bij Defensie effectief kan samenwerken (burgers en militairen). In Nederland maar ook op missie. 24 uur per dag, 7 dagen per week.
• Entiteit IT-Infrastructuur (IT-Infra) levert vanuit het JIVC alle benodigde IT-infrastructuur oplossingen voor Defensie. Sectie Beveiliging zorgt voor het functioneel beheer van digitale identiteiten, beheert samen met de Haagse partners de Crypto keten en is verantwoordelijk voor de Defensiepas dienstverlening.
• Sectie Connectiviteit ontwerpt, realiseert en beheert het NAFIN, alsmede de daaraan gekoppelde lokale, bekabelde en draadloze netwerken op meer dan 300 vaste locaties van defensie en haar ketenpartners. Ook worden de koppelingen van de datacenters met het NAFIN ontworpen, gerealiseerd en beheerd. Daarnaast zijn er de teams NARFA (frequentie management), Radio en SatCom.
• Sectie Maatwerk is verantwoordelijk voor het realiseren van maatwerk verzoeken voor IT-infrastructuur producten en diensten – waar mogelijk gebaseerd op de standaard producten en diensten portfolio van PSD.
• Daarnaast is Maatwerk verantwoordelijk voor de (door)ontwikkeling, instandhouding en uitfasering van deze maatwerk producten en diensten.
