External Project Controlling (Freelance)

The KreativBund - Federal Centre of Culture and Creative Industries brings together entrepreneurs, creativity, and transformation. We inform about the latest entrepreneurial developments in the culture and creative industries and shape the exchange with politics and society. As a space for innovation, we promote cross-industry cooperation, experiments, and bold ideas on economic and social future themes like skill shortage, climate crisis or digitalization.

We are not looking for a classical controlling role, but a pragmatic, project-based project controlling with a focus on operational budget management of approved project funds.

Aufgaben

• Operative Budgetsteuerung: You maintain and develop the central project budget overview (total project, work packages, cost categories) further, conduct regular Soll-Ist comparisons and create ongoing forecasts for expected budget utilization.
• Abstimmung & Koordination: You regularly coordinate with project leadership and teams, conduct quarterly budget talks with departments, request current plans from budget holders:in and make over- and under-budget differences including action options transparent.
• Jahreszyklus & Abschluss: You accompany the annual cycle, analyze uncommitted funds in summer and propose reassignments, steer utilization in autumn and ensure clarity at year-end about planned vs. settled funds as well as closing logic.
• Struktur & Prozessverbesserung: You simplify existing Excel structures, develop team-friendly budget templates further and improve budget processes continuously in coordination with project leadership.

Qualifikation

We are looking for an experienced project controller or finance generalist with a project focus who can independently manage operational budget control. Specifically:

• Erfahrung im Projektcontrolling: You have experience in operative project or budget controlling and can pragmatically manage budgets - including Soll-Ist comparisons, forecasts, and cost categories.
• Excel & Budgetsetups: You use Excel very securely (structure, formulas, overview) and can build budget tables so that they are understandable, sustainable, and decision-relevant for the project.
• Vorbereitung von Budgetentscheidungen: You create forecasts and show deviations and budget logic clearly, so that project leadership and departments can make decisions based on this.
• Gute Kommunikationsfähigkeiten: You work friendly with budget responsible persons in teams together, request numbers collegially and can explain budget logic even to non-controllers.
• Strukturiert & verlässlich: You bring experience in structuring budget and coordination processes and work precisely and reliably.
• Schnittstellenkompetenz: You work with project leadership (main point of contact), budget responsible persons in departments, and accounting (settlement) together and know the basics of accounting and settlement processes (Moss/Datev).
