Job description

About Kavak

We are the technology company revolutionizing the buying and selling of used cars in Latin America since 2016. After 7 years of operation, Kavak has become the most valued technology startup in Latin America, formalizing the used car business in emerging markets, with operations in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and the Middle East.

We are currently looking for new talent who are passionate about challenges and eager to create solutions that positively impact the lives of millions of people with safe, fair, and accessible options to acquire the car of their dreams. Our mission is to empower people's lives through access to an automobile. We unlock the transformative power a car has so people can simply enjoy the ride.

Our team is our number one priority. We love to imagine the impossible and work together to achieve it. We are disruptive, proactive, loyal, and ambitious.

Your Mission

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join our Finance, Legal & Compliance / Controller team. Your mission will be to be responsible for ensuring the integrity, timeliness, and correct fiscal-accounting treatment of Kavak's payment obligations throughout the entire accounts payable cycle. This ranges from fiscal validation of purchase invoices for vehicles from individuals and the management of corporate and service providers, to the process of tax payments to the SAT. Likewise, you will lead a team of 9 analysts, acting as a hinge role between Controller, Tax/Legal, and Systems to formalize processes, mitigate fiscal risks, and scale controls towards automation.

What will you do?

  • Management of vehicle purchases from individuals: Validate the correct fiscal treatment of VAT on purchase invoices according to the seller's regime (RESICO, business activity, isolated alienation) in accordance with regulations (Art. 9 LIVA, Art. 16 CFF); establish pre-payment controls, supervise self-invoices, and coordinate retroactive reviews with the Tax department.
  • Administration of corporate and service providers: Supervise the complete Bill-to-Pay cycle in NetSuite, ensure that returns to suppliers are supported by Credit Notes (avoiding improper CFDI cancellations), and manage the Vendor Return Authorization (VRA) process.
  • Leadership and area transformation: Lead, develop, and mentor a team of 9 analysts; formalize key undocumented processes through updated policies and SOPs; and identify automation and control opportunities in conjunction with the Systems/ERP team.
  • Strategic liaison: Be the point of contact for the Controller with strategic suppliers and external firms (legal and fiscal) on Accounts Payable matters.

What are we looking for?

  • Academic background: Bachelor's degree in Public Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree or CPC/CPA certification desirable).
  • Work experience: Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in accounts payable, accounting, or finance, including at least 2 years leading teams. Desirable experience in high-volume transactional companies, retail, automotive, or e-commerce.
  • Technical and fiscal knowledge: Solid understanding of accounting principles (NIF A-2, C-4, C-19) and the fiscal framework for the alienation of used goods, treatment of individuals (RESICO, ISR/IVA withholdings), and current rules for CFDI cancellation/acceptance.
  • Tools: Advanced Excel indispensable (pivot tables, Power Query, macros). NetSuite management (Bill-to-Pay/AP module) highly desirable, and familiarity with BI/automation tools (Power BI, Power Automate, basic Python).
  • Languages: Fluent Spanish and intermediate English (desirable for interaction with external auditors).
  • Desirable experience: Background in Big 4 firms (EY, Deloitte, KPMG, PwC), participation in ERP automation projects, and formalization of informal processes.

If you are passionate about disruption combined with excellent execution, if you love challenges and making data-driven decisions, and if you are mission-oriented, Kavak is the place for you!
