SEMPRA INFRASTRUCTURE

Our mission to be the leading energy infrastructure company in North America is realized every day through our values, by doing the right thing, empowering people, and building the future. As purpose-driven leaders in the energy industry, we facilitate access to safe and sustainable energy supply that improves lives, inspires people, and opens possibilities everywhere.

Be part of our great team and get energized. Apply for our opening as:

LNG Operations Specialist

OBJECTIVE:

Responsible for acting as a technical reference in LNG processes, providing specialized advice for resolving operational deviations, optimizing process performance, and strengthening operational discipline on-site. Through technical analysis of events, root cause identification, and recommendation of solutions aligned with industry best practices, it contributes to the stability, reliability, and efficiency of the operation. It collaborates closely with Operations, Engineering, and the Production team to close gaps between design, standards, and execution, ensuring the correct application of technical knowledge in the field, and serving as a facilitator for decision-making in complex operational conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a technical reference (SME) in LNG processes, providing specialized support to resolve complex operational deviations and out-of-design conditions.
  • Analyze operational events, deviations, and unplanned shutdowns, leading root cause analysis (RCA) and issuing technical recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Propose and drive process optimizations aimed at improving energy efficiency, operational stability, and plant reliability.
  • Advise Operations on real-time technical decision-making, especially in risk scenarios, operational transitions, or abnormal conditions.
  • Collaborate in ensuring the correct interpretation and application of LNG system process and design philosophies in daily operations.
  • Validate and strengthen operating procedures, ensuring their alignment with industry best practices and actual operating conditions.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC), evaluating technical impacts of modifications to processes, equipment, and operating conditions.
  • Monitor critical process variable performance, identifying trends, operational risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in key technical reviews (PHA, HAZOP, LOPA), contributing knowledge of real operations and dynamic process conditions.
  • Contribute to Process Safety Management (PSM) by identifying risks, validating safeguards, and strengthening operational discipline.
  • Ensure that operational practices reflect safe and efficient standards, especially in critical operations (start-ups, shutdowns, load changes, upset conditions).
  • Act as a technical liaison in the integration of activities between Operations, Maintenance, and other disciplines, ensuring operational coherence.
  • Support training programs from a technical perspective, contributing to the development of operational competencies in LNG process topics.
  • Actively participate in the Industrial Safety, Operational Safety, and Environmental Protection Administration System (SASISOPA), promoting a culture of safety and compliance throughout the organization.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • Professional degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related discipline); exposure to LNG or Oil & Gas industry operations will be valued.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 to 12 years of direct experience in the LNG industry, with involvement in operations, process engineering, or specialized technical support in liquefaction plants, demonstrating proven experience in process analysis, operational problem-solving, and performance optimization in highly complex cryogenic systems. Significant participation in critical phases of the asset lifecycle is required, including commissioning, start-up, ramp-up, or stable operation, with exposure to dynamic conditions, management of operational deviations, and technical decision-making in high-performance industrial environments.

Skills/Knowledge/Aptitudes

  • In-depth technical mastery of natural gas liquefaction (LNG) processes, including cryogenic systems, refrigeration, compression, storage, and product handling.
  • Solid process analysis and advanced troubleshooting capabilities, with the ability to diagnose complex deviations and define effective corrective actions under dynamic operating conditions.
  • Knowledge and practical application of LNG plant design philosophies, ensuring their correct interpretation in daily operations.
  • Experience in process optimization, aimed at improving energy efficiency, operational reliability, and system stability.
  • Ability to evaluate out-of-design conditions and propose safe and viable technical solutions.
  • Strong understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM), risk analysis, and mitigation in high-criticality systems.
  • Experience participating in structured technical analyses (RCA, HAZOP, PHA, LOPA), with a focus on prevention and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze operational data (trends, alarms, equipment performance) and translate them into technical decisions and recommendations.
  • Skill in integrating multidisciplinary knowledge (operations, maintenance, engineering) in solving complex problems.
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to advise on real-time operational decisions, maintaining focus on safety, reliability, and continuity.
  • Skill in closing gaps between engineering and operations, ensuring that design is correctly reflected in field execution.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to operational staff and leadership.
  • Continuous improvement orientation, with a focus on operational stability and variability elimination.
  • High technical discipline and analytical rigor, with a structured approach to problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in English (advanced level), with the ability to communicate effectively in operational environments.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including standing, walking, climbing stairs, and working in confined spaces, in accordance with operational requirements and applicable regulations.
