We are looking for you as an Experienced Software Engineer / ML Engineer (m/f/x) for our AI & Learning Design department.

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer for the development of product-related applications in the education sector, with a clear focus on backend, infrastructure, and sustainable software architecture. Machine learning, LLMs, and data-driven functions play an important role but should be used pragmatically and user-orientedly. The position is aimed at individuals with solid project experience, not purely academic or theoretically oriented profiles.

Your main place of work will be remote within Germany; we support flexible working time models.

Responsibilities

• Build ILP: You will discuss the next steps for further development with the Product Owner and work successfully with colleagues on building the platform.
• Technically steer ILP development: You will be responsible for the technical setup and expansion of the platform.
• Contribute to ILP further development: You will be involved in requests for further development and be responsible for their technical implementation in the software.
• Collaboration with IT: You will collaborate professionally with all departments necessary for the operation of the software.
• Technical responsibility: You will take responsibility for building the technology stack.

Qualifications

• Professional Background: You have at least 5 years of professional experience in software development, ideally with several applications or platforms in productive use. Experience with LLM-based product functions, prompting, retrieval systems, or multi-stage AI workflows would be desirable, as would software development experience from before the current GenAI boom, with a corresponding eye for maintainability, architecture, and realistic product maturity.
• Technical Skills: You have very good knowledge of Python and sound experience with backend development, e.g., Ruby on Rails, Django, FastAPI, or comparable frameworks. You have experience with cloud and infrastructure topics such as Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Terraform, AWS, or Azure, and demonstrable practical experience in implementing ML, NLP, or data-based applications, e.g., classification, RAG, embeddings, pipelines, or model integration. Experience in technically complex domains such as education, didactics, knowledge management, healthcare, data platforms, or regulated environments would be desirable.
• Methodology: You have an independent, structured way of working with a high standard of quality, good comprehension skills, and confident communication within the team and with subject matter experts.
• Personal Skills: You have experience in technical leadership, mentoring, architectural decisions, or close collaboration with product owners and stakeholders, which will facilitate your onboarding.
• Language Skills: You possess very good German and English language skills, enabling you to communicate effectively.
