Environmental Officer (2 year fixed term contract)

Job Description The role is responsible for driving improved environmental performance through monitoring and analysing environmental effects and using this analysis to better inform decision making. This includes ensuring that mining activities are monitored for their impact on the environment so that compliance with consent conditions can be demonstrated. Key responsibilities: Carry out monitoring of the following, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures: native flora and fauna – including trees, plants, and animals; water quality; air quality; noise levels; and visual impacts. Ensure that all monitoring is conducted in accordance with the relevant environmental legislation and regulations. Use the data collected to identify trends and patterns, and to inform decision making. This includes identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes to reduce the environmental impact of mining activities. Key performance indicators will include the achievement of specific environmental targets and the demonstration of compliance with consent conditions. The role will also involve working closely with other departments, including the Environmental Management team, to ensure that environmental considerations are integrated into all aspects of the business. This includes providing training and guidance to other staff members on environmental issues and promoting a culture of environmental awareness and responsibility. The role will also involve staying up to date with the latest environmental legislation and regulations, and providing advice and guidance to the business on how to comply with these requirements.
