Development Engineer: F&E Physics & Simulation (m/w/d)

We make heating and cooling radically more efficient.

Ecalia is a Deep-Tech startup from Stuttgart that fundamentally rethinks the refrigeration and heat pump technology. Our innovation are Scroll-Compressor-Expander systems that work with conventional refrigerants and bring the thermodynamic cycle process closer to its optimum than all currently available systems on the market. This addresses one of the largest levers for global energy efficiency, as heating and cooling consume almost half of the world's energy.

We were awarded as one of the Top-10 most innovative Tech startups in Germany (Weconomy Award 2025) and are working at the Institute for Plastics Technology at the University of Stuttgart on our prototypes and test facilities.

We are a small, well-coordinated team of currently three people. We grow and value diversity and high motivation in our team. Our claim is to rethink previous business and development processes and integrate KI tools successively into our workflows and develop them as our primary working tool.

Aufgaben

You will take over part of the research and development work, which is currently being carried out solely by our CTO, and elevate it through independent, KI-supported work to a new level.

This means:

• Berechnungen durchführen: Calculations for components, parameter studies, formula research and application for our Compressor-Expander systems.
• Konstruieren: CAD models for components and test facilities to create and maintain.
• Systeme modellieren: Understand what's going on in our Scroll machines and use KI tools and physics to further develop our products. Thermodynamic cycle processes calculate, flow and structure analyze, and physical models build and validate.
• Simulationen aufsetzen: Perform FEM and CFD analyses (OpenFoam, Nastran, ANSYS etc.) or set them up.
• Versuche planen und auswerten: Plan test facility experiments systematically, analyze measurement data, and interpret results.
• Mit KI arbeiten – wirklich: Use KI tools as daily working tool for research, modeling, data analysis, and documentation. Not as a gimmick, but as a multiplier of your engineering work.
• Programmieren: Write Python scripts for simulation, data analysis, and automation. Think in processes and create workflows.
• Qualität leben: Work according to structured development processes, document results neatly, and check plausibility.
