Job description
NotarPartner is building the digital work environment for the German notary profession – from notaries for notaries. Instead of copy-pasting from Word templates: enter data, select a clause, download a signature-ready document. Over 140 law firms are already working with us, plus digital files & AI assistant.
We have just completed our funding round. In the coming months, we will scale from around 120 to 2,000 affiliated notary offices. For this, we are building an in-house engineering team.
As Engineering Lead, you will lead our development team and simultaneously write code yourself. You will join a team of three permanent engineers, and Product, which will grow in the coming months. Short distances, direct contact with management, technical decisions without committees.
Tasks
- You will lead our engineering team both technically and disciplinarily: 1:1s, professional development, clear expectations, honest feedback.
- You will remain hands-on. A significant portion of your time will continue to be dedicated to code, reviews, and architecture work with React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, and PostgreSQL.
- You will be responsible for the technical architecture of our multi-tenant platform and make it ready for the leap to 2,000 notary offices – performance, data model, reliability.
- You will help build the team: You will sharpen profiles, conduct technical interviews, and decide who joins.
- You will make AI the standard – in the product (document generation, document analysis, agentic workflows) and in the development process itself.
- You will ensure reliable delivery: planning, quality standards, deployments, incident handling.
- You will work closely with Product, Design, and notaries, translating between notary practice and technical implementation.
Qualifications
- Several years of experience as a software developer and at least two years of leadership experience – you have led and developed a team of 3 to 8 engineers.
- You are technically fully capable: You master React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, and PostgreSQL yourself, not just on slides. You explicitly want this role with a code component.
- Experience in taking a SaaS product through a real growth phase – architecture, data model, and operations.
- You have hired yourself: conducted interviews, made decisions, onboarded and retained people.
- Genuine enthusiasm for AI tooling (e.g., Claude, Codex) and agentic workflows – you actively drive their use within the team.
- Strong product understanding and the willingness to truly immerse yourself in notary processes.
- Native-level German (C2). Our product thrives on specialized notary terminology – linguistic precision is essential here.
Nice to have: Experience in Legal Tech or other regulated industries, with multi-tenant architectures, with the replacement of external service providers, or with distributed teams.n systems.
Benefits
- Attractive fixed salary that reflects your experience as a Lead.
- Substantial VSOP participation: You will directly benefit from the company's success – with a clear exit focus in the next 3 to 5 years.
- The first engineering leadership role in the company: You will decide on stack development, architecture, and team building – and grow with the organization into the next level.
- Leadership with a code component.
- 100% remote within Germany, plus Workation phases (e.g., two weeks in Spain).
- Trust-based working hours and 30 vacation days.
- State-of-the-art AI tools as an integral part of the workflow – not as a pilot project, but as a standard.
- A product with measurable benefits: 11 minutes saved per document in notary offices, noticeable from day one.
Sounds like you? Then apply – a CV or your GitHub/LinkedIn profile is sufficient, we don't need a cover letter.
Here’s how it works:
1. Getting to know each other: 20-30 minute video call with our CTO – about you, the product, and your perspective on it.
2. Deep Dive: Architecture and leadership session based on our current situation – how would you set up the first six months?
3. Meet the Team: Conversations with the engineers and management.
We will make a swift decision afterward. We are looking to hire as soon as possible.
