Job description

Location: Rennes (Gare Offices)

Pace: On-site 3 days/week + remote work

Compensation: Package €60-75k depending on profile

Contract: Permanent employment contract (CDI)

Reporting to: COO

The Company

Join an innovative company specializing in intelligent mobility B2B SaaS solutions, with strong growth, based in Rennes and comprising around thirty employees. PYSAE develops software to make public transport more efficient and attractive. We support over 100 clients, including major operators like Transdev, Keolis, and RATP, and equip more than 10,000 buses, in mainland France, overseas territories, Italy, and Saudi Arabia.

Your Mission

You will take the lead of PYSAE's technical team: seven people, developers with different specializations and a DevOps profile, mixing permanent employees and contractors. Your role is to maintain a high-performing, proactive, autonomous team aligned with the company's Product ambitions, while structuring collaboration with the company's other teams.

Our development approach is undergoing a transformation: generative AI has scaled up the team's productivity. Your mission is to support this dynamic: help the team continue to progress, fully leverage the gains of this technology, and build the processes that allow us to move fast without losing control or knowledge of our system. This is the condition for supporting PYSAE's ambitious Product strategy.

This position is above all a management, leadership, but also client and partner contact role: generative AI allows every contributor to gain perspective on topics, and it is therefore essential that the team manager is in touch with the ground. It is for someone who finds their energy in making a team succeed and delivering projects that matter to demanding clients. Technical expertise is a real asset for dialoguing as an equal with the team, but the challenge is not to code or be the best technical expert in the room.

Your Responsibilities

Technical Team Management

  • Lead, engage, and develop a team of 7 people, mixing permanent employees and contractors

  • Ensure individual follow-up for each person: objectives, skill development, feedback, recruitment

  • Create a work environment where the team is autonomous, responsible, and motivated, in a context of rapidly evolving practices

  • Report to the COO with the appropriate level of detail and frequency

Generative AI & Engineering Processes

  • Support the team in the daily use of generative AI and capitalize on its productivity gains

  • Build and evolve development processes adapted to these new ways of working (reviews, quality, documentation, delivery)

  • Ensure that the team maintains mastery and knowledge of our system, despite the acceleration enabled by AI

  • Share best practices and encourage reasoned experimentation

Technical Project Management

  • Lead technical projects end-to-end: scoping, planning, monitoring, risk management, delivery

  • Arbitrate technical priorities and monitor team workload in conjunction with Product and Operations teams

  • Ensure communication on progress to internal and external stakeholders

Client Proximity & Domain Knowledge

  • Meet with clients and users to understand their usage and expectations

  • Build knowledge of the public transport domain, complementing that of the Product team

  • Bridge the gap between field needs and technical choices, providing the engineering perspective

  • Contribute to technical discussions with clients and partners when necessary

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product and Operations managers (who report to the COO like you) for prioritization, field feedback, and inter-team processes

  • Contribute to the product strategy by providing insights on feasibility, costs, and technical risks

Your Profile

  • 7 to 12 years of experience, including significant experience in managing technical teams, ideally within a software publisher

  • Ability to manage diverse technical profiles, including contractors, and to rally a mixed team

  • Proven experience in technical project management (scoping, leadership, delivery)

  • Real proximity to clients and a desire to understand the business domain, with the ability to take a step back

  • Good technical culture allowing dialogue with developers and challenging their choices; technical expertise is a plus

  • Genuine interest in generative AI and its impact on engineering professions; concrete experience in supporting teams on this subject is a big plus

  • Autonomous and reliable: you can be trusted with your scope, you know when, how, and to whom to report

  • Versatile and adaptable: you know how to evolve your priorities in an agile structure where roles are not fixed

  • Excellent communication skills, with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Fluent English

Technical Context

  • Infrastructure & Ops: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Datadog, Linux, Docker

  • Back-end & Python (FastAPI), Node.js, MongoDB, SQL, Redis

  • Front-end & Mobile: Vue.js, Native Android (Java) & Hybrid Web (Vue.js / Capacitor)

  • AI Productivity: Industrial use of Claude (assisted coding, documentation, automation)

Practical Arrangements

  • Based in Rennes

  • 3 days on-site per week (Gare offices)

  • Client travel expected (approx. 1 per month)
