At VREY, we are building the EnergyOS for apartment buildings.

In Germany, there are over 3.3 million multi-party houses – and they are the black hole of the energy transition.

At the same time, regulation forces owners to make massive investments: solar power is becoming mandatory, smart meters must be rolled out nationwide within the next 5 years, and heating and mobility are electrifying. The apartment building is transforming from a mere concrete asset into an active part of the decentralized energy infrastructure.

What's missing is an integrated system that makes this transformation manageable economically and operationally.

VREY combines certified metering point operation with its own software and, for the first time, enables owners to sell their self-generated solar power directly to their tenants – easily and without becoming an energy provider themselves (§42b EnWG).

This turns regulatory obligation into a profitable and predictable opportunity:

• Double-digit returns and value appreciation for owners,

• ~20% electricity cost savings for tenants, and

• digital infrastructure for storage, heat pumps, and flexibility.

We are already managing a three-digit number of projects – including the largest portfolio holders and housing cooperatives – in all 16 federal states. This makes us one of the leading providers in the market in a very short time.

As part of our seed financing, we have raised €3.3 million from leading impact and energy VCs (including Rubio Impact Ventures, HTGF, Kopa Ventures). With the fresh capital, we are entering our next growth phase and are strategically expanding our team.

Your Profile

• You already have professional experience in Energy Management Systems (EMS/HEMS) and/or with IoT and data platforms

• You have a good understanding of smart metering, CLS/§14a EnWG, dynamic electricity tariffs, direct marketing, or flexibility marketing

• You can structure technical complexity and translate it into clear product requirements, roadmaps, specifications, and decision memos.

• You are strong in research, structuring, and decision-making, and can substantiate Make/Partner/Buy options.

• You are not afraid of regulatory topics and can independently familiarize yourself with energy industry issues.

• You use data and metrics to validate hypotheses, justify priorities, and make product decisions measurable

• You have a strong interest in the energy world and startups or real estate

• You are consciously not looking for a 9-to-5 job, but want to take responsibility in a fast-paced, founder-adjacent environment, build structures, and actively shape growth

• You are located in Berlin (or willing to relocate) – our office is our home base

• You speak German and English fluently

Your Tasks

Mission of the Role

As Product Manager Energy, you will be responsible for developing a first-of-its-kind energy management and control product, building on our smart meter and CLS infrastructure.

You will work closely with our COO and external partners such as aEMT, CLS, GWA, hardware, and software providers. Your task is to understand technical, regulatory, and commercial requirements and derive a clear product roadmap, robust specifications, and functioning pilots from them.

1. Product Development for Energy Intelligence (especially EMS)

• You will take product responsibility for our new Energy Intelligence layer based on smart meters, CLS control boxes, and controllable assets

• You will analyze what data we need and in what granularity, e.g., generation, consumption, grid feed-in, battery status, heat pump load, wallbox consumption, and system statuses

• You will develop initial control logics and product concepts for use cases such as self-consumption optimization, §14a controllability, dynamic electricity tariffs, direct marketing, and, in the future, flexibility/VPP

2. Pilots, Partners, and Technical Conception

• You will help us answer the question: What do we build ourselves, what do we do with partners, what do we buy or integrate?

• You will build a clear understanding of what hardware, data, and control architecture we need for different building types and asset combinations

• You will translate energy industry and technical requirements into concrete product requirements, user stories, data models, interface requirements, and acceptance criteria

3. Market, Regulation, and Strategic Product Development

• You will monitor relevant regulatory developments, especially concerning CLS, §14a EnWG, smart metering, dynamic tariffs, direct marketing, energy sharing, and flexibility

• You will prioritize use cases based on customer benefit, technical feasibility, regulatory relevance, and commercial potential

• Together with Cedric (COO) and Martin (Head of Engineering), you will manage the roadmap for our energy products
