Emergency Management Officer

Full Time

Job description

Work where others holiday. Make a difference where it matters.

The Coromandel Peninsula isn't just one of New Zealand's most stunning places to live—it's also one of our most dynamic civil defence and emergency management environments.

With a resident population of 33,700 that swells to 250,000 during peak summer, our small but mighty team punches well above its weight.

The Role

Your primary focus will be building community resilience from the ground up - developing, resourcing, and expanding our network of Community Response Groups across the peninsula.

You'll be out in communities, not stuck behind a desk, empowering locals to be ready when it counts.

But let's be upfront: when civil defence emergencies happen, you'll be in the thick of it. Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) activations, duty officer rotations, and response operations are part of the deal.

If you thrive under pressure and want variety, this is it

What You'll Bring

  • Experience in civil defence emergency management response
  • Practical experience in EOC management
  • CDEM National Framework qualification (or CIMS)
  • Proven ability to connect with diverse communities—from our kaumātua and Iwi partners to rural landowners and coastal townships
  • The work ethic to build something meaningful, and the flexibility to drop everything when it all kicks off

The successful candidate may be required to undertake a pre-employment drug test and the appropriate background checks.

What We Offer

World-class beaches, native bush, and a lifestyle most people only dream about—right on your doorstep.

A close-knit team doing genuinely important work, helping communities prepare for whatever comes next.

The right to work in New Zealand and a current, full drivers' licence is mandatory.

Closing date for applications is 8 February 2026.
