- Yarrabah Emergency Service is a remote facility located 65km from Cairns. The tropical town juts out off the coast, separated from Cairns city by the inlet of the Coral Sea. Yarrabah has the highest density of Aboriginal and Indigenous population in Australia. The surrounding population totals about 2000 people.
- The facility itself is busy – seeing 800-900 patients per month. The most frequent ED presentations would include respiratory sepsis, cardiac events, renal issues, and traumas like MVA’s.
- There is a doctor on site during the day, and on-call overnight. The NUM and CNC do on-call too. You will be on each 12hr shift with 2 other RNs.
Sounds amazing – what will my duties be?
- You will be required to triage, assess, and care for critically unwell patients.
- Organise and coordinate ambulance transfers – there are no inpatient beds on-site. The nearest major hospital is Cairns.
- Transfer patients to Cairns in the ambulance or helicopter if required
- Use critical care / emergency skills to stabilise and resuscitate patients
- Complete comprehensive documentation and reports
What is required to work here?
- 4+ years minimum as an RN in Emergency Nursing
- Post grad in Advanced Emergency Nursing or Critical Care nursing highly valuable but not mandatory
- Experience working in rural, remote and Indigenous communities
- Certificates in ALS, triage, imminent birthing
- Police check, Immunisation records, certified ID
