Contract duration: limited to a maximum of 2 years Start: July 1st Application deadline: August 31st of the current year

The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is Germany's leading research institution for polar and marine sciences and owner of the permanently occupied Neumayer Station III in Antarctica. The station serves as a modern research base under extreme conditions on Earth.

We, Reederei F. Laeisz G.m.b.H., ensure the technical operation of this unique station. This job will be assigned through us.

Tasks

As Electro-Engineer/in (m/w/d), you will take on a central technical responsibility for the year-round operation of the station:

Your tasks:

  • Self-responsible maintenance, repair, and maintenance of all electrical and electronic systems at the station, including energy supply, measurement and control systems, as well as safety systems
  • Maintenance, repair, and maintenance of vehicles, laboratories, and scientific-technical equipment
  • Collaboration with the Position Betriebsingenieur (m/w/d) to ensure smooth technical operation
  • Support in security-relevant procedures and technical projects
  • Active shaping of a safe, efficient, and team-oriented working environment

Qualification

  • Degree (FH/University) or equivalent qualification (e.g. Technician:in, Master:in) in the field: Electrical Engineering, Automation Technology, Mechatronics or comparable technical specialization
  • Very good German language skills (at least B2) and very good English language skills (at least B2)
  • Evidence of professional experience in energy technology, control and regulation technology, and building technology
  • Experience in operational technology and automotive electrical engineering are advantageous
  • Handicraft skill
  • Teamwork ability, sense of responsibility, and resilience
  • Able to work for long periods in a tight team under extreme conditions
