About Our Client
The client is a leading provider of electrical engineering and industrial automation services, delivering complex engineering solutions across Ireland, the UK, and Europe. They are recognised for technical excellence across power generation, transmission and distribution networks, substations, and data centre infrastructure, supporting large-scale, mission-critical projects.
Purpose of Role
The Electrical Engineering Team Lead will provide technical leadership and project oversight for HV/MV/LV electrical design activities supporting projects across Ireland, the UK, and Europe. Working remotely from Romania, this role combines hands-on electrical engineering with team leadership, quality assurance, and stakeholder engagement, reporting into Senior Engineering Management.
Roles & Responsibilities
Lead and technically approve HV & MV electrical designs for grid-connected infrastructure projects, including:
- AIS & GIS substations (typically 20kV–220kV);
- Grid interface and contestable/non-contestable assets;
- Transformer, switchgear, and protection system specifications;
- Lead and review high-voltage power system studies, including:
- Load flow and system performance studies;
- Short circuit and fault level analysis;
- Reactive Power Capability;
- Arc flash risk assessments;
Oversee production and review of:
- Single line diagrams;
- Primary plant layouts and substation arrangements;
- Control & protection schematics;
- Earthing and lightning protection designs;
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership, mentoring, and support to HV/MV Electrical Engineers;
- Allocate work, manage technical priorities, and ensure deliverables meet programme and quality targets;
- Conduct formal design reviews and act as technical signatory where required;
- Support bid, estimation, and scope-definition activities for HV projects;
- Act as a senior technical interface with project managers, clients, utilities, and transmission system operators;
Ensure engineering outputs comply with:
- Applicable IEC / IEEE / EN standards;
- Client specifications and utility requirements;
- Internal quality and governance processes;
- Identify and mitigate technical risks across projects;
- Report technical progress, resourcing, and risk status to Senior Engineering Management;
Skills, Qualifications & Abilities
Essential
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Power Engineering;
- English language proficiency to CEFR B2 level or above;
- 5+ years’ experience in HV/MV electrical engineering within transmission, distribution, or power generation environments;
- Demonstrated expertise in high-voltage substations, grid interfacing, and power system analysis;
- Proven experience providing technical leadership and mentoring within engineering teams;
- Strong experience using AutoCAD or similar tools for HV layouts and substation design;
- Working knowledge of HV protection principles, earthing design, and grid compliance;
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams);
Advantageous
- Experience with EPLAN for control & protection design;
- Hands-on experience with power systems software such as ETAP, CDEGS, CYMCAP, or similar;
- Prior experience working with DSOs / TSOs or regulated utility frameworks;
- Experience on data centre grid-connection or large energy user projects;
