Job description

For over 50 years Melba Support Services has been providing services to people with disability, including SIL (Sign Language Interpreting) and other forms of communication support. We are seeking a Disability Support Worker - SIL who will work in partnership with our clients to provide high-quality support and advocacy. The successful candidate will be required to: • Provide SIL support to individuals with hearing impairment or deafness, using Auslan (Australian Sign Language) as the primary means of communication. • Work collaboratively with other Melba staff members to develop and implement individualized support plans that meet the needs of our clients. • Provide advocacy and support to ensure the rights and interests of our clients are respected and upheld. • Maintain accurate records and reports, including case notes, incident reports, and statistical data. • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to the development of Melba's policies and procedures. • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by the needs of our clients. • Be available to work on a part-time basis (approximately 20 hours per week). The ideal candidate will have: • A relevant degree or diploma in a field such as disability studies, social work, or education. • Experience working with people with disability, particularly those who are deaf or hard of hearing. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including Auslan (Australian Sign Language). • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. • A current Working With Children Check (WWCC) and a National Police Certificate.
