Disability Support Worker or Disabled Carer
Job description
The Disability Support Worker is responsible for implementing support services aimed at maximizing the living, social and recreational skills of people with a disability. Community inclusion, independence, decision making and personal choice should be promoted through these supports, with a focus on individual needs.

● Level 2
**If a Cert IV or Diploma level qualification has been ascertained the employee will commence at Level 2 Pay Point 2.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time Employment (minimum 38 hours per week).
SALARY RANGE: $65,000 – $75,000 per annum plus superannuation.
REPORTS TO: Director
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support participants to engage in age-appropriate
activities and tasks including in-home support and
community access.
● Support participants to access activities and outings in the
community.
Provide direct care assistance to each participant in
accordance with their service plan and as directed by the
Director. Types of direct care provided may include
personal tasks, domestic assistance, respite, social
support, transport, meal preparation and/or life skills
development.
● Work in accordance with the medication administration
policy, work health and safety procedures and participant
right’s policies including privacy and confidentiality.
● Monitor the safety and well-being of the participants and
report any concerns to the Director.
Provide 1:1 or small group training and support in
response to individual participant needs.
Ensure completion of appropriate documentation.
Relevant information on support provided is to be
recorded in participant notes and communication book as
required.
● Maintain petty cash and accurate records of all
expenditure.
● Daily use of computer systems and software programs to
ensure effective service delivery, communication and
storage information.
● Actively contribute to a team environment through open
communication, participation in regular staff meetings,
planning processes and policy review. Provide back up
and support to other staff as necessary
Participate in Performance Development meetings to
identify ongoing training and support opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS, CHECKS & EXPERIENCE:
A minimum Cert III Individual Support, Mental Health,
Aged Care, Community Services, Disability Work or
similar.
● Minimum 6 months relevant experience supporting
participants with disabilities.
● Demonstrated continuing professional development.
● Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles.
● Valid DHS Child-related and NDIS worker screening
● National Police Certificate and First Aid Certificate
● NDIS Orientation module.
● Driver’s License.
● Reliable and comprehensively insured vehicle
● Smart phone.
● Ability to work in various locations across Adelaide
predominantly Eastern and Northern Suburbs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:
● Genuine desire to provide the best quality support for
people with disabilities.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Ability to build rapport and trust with participants.
● Strong time management and ability to prioritise.
● Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of programs and
other computer systems for record keeping.
● Excellent problem solving and conflict management skills.
● Ability to work as part of a team and maintain good
working relationships.
